I've been wanting to buy a mortar and pestle set for a while. I don't need one very often, but I started making a specific seasoning for a chicken recipe I love and each time I make it, I need to grind some fennel seeds with some other spices. I have to clean out my coffee grinder and get all the bits of coffee out, use it, then clean the life out of it again to go back to being a coffee grinder. I tried using my mini prep, but it didn't seem to work well for the job.So, I finally got one and selected this brand. This is SOLID. It's the perfect size for me (I got the 1.5 cup although maybe I should have gotten the 2 cup, but that's just me) and it's heavy and super sturdy.I chose this set because it's more of a raw surface. A smooth surface won't give you that grit that you need to grind well. I've seen smooth marble versions that would be useless, to be honest. You need some texture on both the mortar and pestle to do the job right.The handle on the pestle is comfortable to grip. The two pieces are slightly different shades, but it's a natural product, so that's to be expected. It comes with a bottom, kind of soft grippy sticker so the granite it won't come in contact with and scratch your counter and will grip your counter and now slide around when you use it Don't forget to apply the sticker (I have a. photo attached with my pics here).Oh! And don't forget to follow the instructions to "season" it, so you don't get any bits of stone in your first few uses. I used uncooked white rice. It's kind of annoying, but don't skip this step!!Made in Germany, not China! This will last forever, to be honest.Looks beautiful on my counter. For the price, this is a high quality, well made set and I recommend it highly.

This mortar and pestle is excellent quality. It’s made from solid stone, very heavy, sturdy, and feels built to last. The weight keeps it stable while grinding, and the rough interior makes it easy to crush spices, herbs, seeds, and grains into a fine powder with very little effort. It’s comfortable to use, easy to clean, and looks beautiful on the countertop. I’m very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.

OBSEEEEESSED! I’ve recently gotten into the whole Homestead life, making everything from scratch that I can cut out all preservatives and crap food that we are able to. I learned that you can make your own pesto, garlic powder, onion powder, etc. I received this and followed the instructions to wash, dry, season, and while I was incredibly impatient for the two days it took for me to complete this. It was so worth it. I made my own garlic pesto this week, using my basil plant and fresh garlic clove and shoved that inside of a chicken that I baked and holy cow. Freaking amazeballs! I initially intended to use a neighbor‘s coffee grinder, but when I got it to my house, unplugged it and it didn’t work. So I did what any same person would do and went shopping and found this. The great thing about this is that it’s not electronic and it’s never going to die on you and if you take care of it, it will last you your lifetime and then some. It does take a bit of a practice and I’m still learning how to grind into a solid paste as opposed to having a few flex in here and there, but I will get better at it. I got the 2 cup one and let me tell you this thing is heavy duty, it’s got some weight to it. The 2 cup size is great because even if I make small things, I have the option to make larger things if I want to and if I wanna make something I’m able to can or seal it. I got the black option which goes with the colors of items already on my counter.

I couldn’t be happier with this mortar and pestle set! The granite is heavy, solid, and feels very high quality. It stays in place while grinding and makes quick work of herbs, spices, garlic, peppercorns, and even tougher ingredients. The bowl has a great capacity, and the pestle is comfortable to hold and easy to control.The finish is excellent, it was easy to season before first use, and cleanup has been simple. If you’re looking for a durable, well-made mortar and pestle that performs just as well as it looks, I highly recommend this one. Excellent value for the price!

This is extremely sturdy and easy to use. I never take it off my counter. Both the mortar and the pestle are very heavy, which makes the mortar extremely stable — it does not move on the counter while using it. The weight of the pestle actually makes it easier to use because the weight carries the action, and the handle is quite comfortable in your hand, giving you a lot of flexibility in how you use it. The grinding surface is absolutely perfect. I use it almost daily to grind dry herbs to release their oils and flavor without your having to pick little sticks out of your food when you eat.I think it’s very important to follow the directions carefully for the initial conditioning of it and breaking it in so that you don’t have marble dust in what you are grinding. It’s a little time consuming but easy enough.My husband has a serious medical condition that requires an extremely strict salt-free diet. The hospital gave him dreadful food with absolutely no flavor. In order for him to enjoy his food, I add lots and lots of herbs and seasonings. For the past year, this mortar and pestle have made that possible and easy. I love this thing and am grateful for its ease of use.The most amazing thing is that it is beautiful in the bargain, absolutely gorgeous to look at on my counter.

“Developed and designed in Germany”Made in China.Nice heavy item, but insanely had to be sent all around the world to get to the UK. The highest rated mortar and pestle, proudly states developed and designed in Germany with their flag colours on the ad, however it is made in China. Along with everything else. I feel foolish to have proudly stated Germany. Somewhat misleading, no?I’m sure it will function as intended, however it is a gift and so I shall not be using it myself. I’ll be handing it over in shame however, and embarrassedly coming clean about the origins of the item. Feel a bit tricked. State clearly where it comes from, don’t try and pass it off as German made on first glance.

Item is just as advertised. Solid heavy granite (7lbs) that is polished on the outside and rough on the inside. Works great. Delivered on time.

This Mortar and Pestle was perfect. Its big and heavy which is what we wanted. My husband was thrilled to have the larger Pestle for him to have a better grip. The Mortar is also a bonus as its size gives opportunity to make a lot more things than just grinding spices and seeds. I would definitely recommend this product.

Très beau mortier, lourd et solide, fait très bien le travail. Il faut cependant mettre un sous-plat antidérapant dessous si on ne veut pas abîmer son comptoir. Il aurait été bien que le fabricant pense à mettre une matière antidérapante sous le mortier. À ce prix, je suis satisfaite de mon achat.
