Tough Cookie: A Christmas Story

This is a must have book for any classroom and home, love it!

This is a great twist on the gingerbread man story. My daughter loves this book. I love it too!

Tough Cookie starts out similarly to The Gingerbread Man with a Fox deciding that he looks delicious enough to chase down and eat, but that’s pretty much where the similarities end. In this story, Cookie (in spite of his sugary good looks) does NOT taste good when the Fox takes a little nip of him. Cookie is disappointed by this and breaks down in tears. The Fox feels sympathetic and they get to be buddies, with the Fox trying to help Cookie feel better about himself. He takes him to a spa, enters him into a race, and helps him build a new gingerbread home. When Cookie fails at success, the adorable characters of the town lift him up and reveal his true purpose. This story shines above so many others in that it is truly original even though it borrows initially from The Gingerbread Man. The story is sweet, the telling is creative, but the highlight is the absolutely precious illustrations. I don’t know when I’ve seen more sweet characters! You just fall in love with all of them, and especially Cookie. I highly recommend this book to all ages, and now I want to find more books by this wonderful author/illustrator. He is the grandson of Ernest Hemingway, but his talent is all his own.

You’ll have to help your kid connect the dots, but it’s a cute book that leaves the interpretation to the reader

I purchased this book as a very special gift for a friend over seas, and I really enjoy the story and the graphics. The only reason why it's receiving 4 stars is due to the packaging for a soft-cover book. My book arrived in poor shape.

My 5yr old loves this book! Our library had highlighted it on an event they had and she had to have it! I snuck it in as part of an early Santa gift and she can’t stop talking about it. The illustrations are great, the lessons learned are great and we love to sit and read it together. Great book, we even gifted a few to her friends for the holidays! Highly recommend adding this to your holiday reading list.

Aesthetically pleasing book, but sort of an awkward read. My kids didn’t “get” it. If you’re buying it as a prop for your holiday book wall on Instagram, go right ahead. If you’re looking for an actual good read? Pick something else.
