Quality construction, superior design
Got these for my nephew who loves to bang on his drums. They are perfect for drumming in small spaces because he can bang away without blowing his ears (or mine) out. I would still recommend using ear protection with these drumsticks if you're going to be practicing with them because they still produce a good deal of sound. Solid enough to withstand some heavy handed use from what I can observe from my nephew's style of drumming. Giving it 4 out of 5 stars only because I'm not a drummer myself and can't comment on the feel of the sticks with any authority on the subject. As mentioned in another review, Amazon ships this in a ridiculously large box. Awesome if you want some free packing material. Still I hope they will respond to my suggestion that they ship it in a poster tube instead.

so close...better than expected
Well it appears Vater has come the closest so far in mimicking Promark. This stick seems to have the quality and balance so difficult to duplicate. One little thing that still seems to evade all competitors is the grip wrap on the Vater has less grip sensitivity. feel like it's going to slip out of your hands. Will try something to either rough it up or put something on it to give it more grip.Update 01/04/2020Played my first gig with these. As soon as I started using them they friction and heat from playing got them very grip worthy. They are as good or better than Hot Rods..

Better than lightning rods
These stick are most decidedly better than the similar lightning rods or splash sticks. I really enjoy the coating, which goes up about 85% of the stick. I believe that this helps the sticks last at least twice as long as the lightning rods. Playing with a large amount of force will still stress the individual dowels, but you can feel a little more free than most other similar model sticks. I The coating almost feels like a vinyl wrap which absorbs a decent amount of resonance on the stick. The individual rods in the stick are a little bit thicker than similar sticks, which gives it a fatter and more open feel. The lightning rods offer a little more articulate sound. These are my go-to dowel style sticks, along with the Steve Gadd tala wands.

Awesome
I really prefer these to other rod-style sticks. They hold together better than other and don't splinter as much as others. More strength on the shaft.
