Dull and Messy not Glamorous
Aside from a small section or two, the long awaited hype for this book was a disappointment. I loved the author’s first book. It was a refreshing take on vintage. The pages within this book show staged scenarios of messy scenes. Page after page of staged vintage, whereas in her first book, there was a clean, modern aesthetic with vintage added here and there, a more realistic view of life with old things. She also shows cute scenes like the parasol umbrella. However, when you look up the manufacturer, you realize there’s no way the average person can re-create a $2,200 parasol. That isn’t really vintage; it’s high end fabric made to look like vintage. Such a disappointment as I have thumbed through her first book time after time. In the final chapter, she includes a couple vignettes from Rachel Ashwell’s house. Scenes that we have already seen over and over again. Nothing new there. Looks as if this were thrown in to get Ashwell’s endorsement of the book. A better title for this book would be Messy Junk by the Sea. I’ll be returning.

Love! I love vintage, I feel this book represents more than just romantic vintage, but several other styles

Very, very few pictures of rooms overlooking the sea as on the cover. Title was misleading.
I didn’t like that the book was supposed to be about houses by the sea, but there were very few pictures of rooms overlooking the sea in the book. The one featured on the cover was the best one.

Fabulous Evocative Book!!!
Adored this book. Pearl Lowe is a wonderful writer who knows how to make you feel the soul of a place. It’s chock full of pix, information and dreamy faded fabulous homes worn beautiful by the sea air and sun. Plus Lowe opens with her own family’s journey to find their sea cottage gem! Get this book, you won’t be sorry. Also art directed by Rachel Ashwell. Lovely book!

so dull and done to death ' vintage'
intended as a gift , really nothing to recommend , originality in scant supply , desperately over staged photography , lacked honesty and beauty
