is this mouse same as wired mouse

"Ortho Mouse Wireless" would not be the same as a wired mouse... hence the term, wireless. However, I do believe that they offer one with a wire attached, which would save $ in batteries in the long run.

Is there a wheel on this mouse? What comes in the package (I have rather large hands and want to make sure it will work)?

There is no scroll wheel on this mouse as this has been shown to aggravate repetitive stress injuries. Scrolling, along with a variety of other functions are accomplished through the three thumb switch-style buttons. It takes a little getting used to, but it feels nice and helped my pain considerably. I also have large hands and this is the best feeling mouse I've ever used.

I see a review that states wireless drops out or the mouse cursor sticks until about a 1/4 second after a period of inactivity is this true?

After inactivity you have to click the left click to activate it again. I know that my mouse continually freezes up to the point that I insisted on a refund from Amazon. I was so annoyed with it just stopping in the middle of use.
