Is it better than a metal ruler set?

If the metal ruler set has the same pieces as the plastic then I would say no. I have a very small space to work in so I must be mindful when using the rulers and cutting and ironing not to burn the plastic ruler.

Is the plastic material easy to use?

Yes. Very small area to work in. Very flexible yet durable
