Cool throw back!
My 6-year old son loved playing this. So cool that it still looks like it did when I was a kid!

Great game!
Great game! great tribute to Sega genesis games. Save all those rings, its lots of boss battles. DLC was only an extra $5 for Xbox, to unlock the Plus encore part with Mighty and Ray.

Would Have Been A Great Game, Except One Glaring Flaw...
I've decided to edit this review, upping my rating to 5 stars overall, because while I still think the bosses are inconsistent and too hard in many cases, the fact they included a "debug" and level selection like the old Genesis Sonic games, really makes up for this issue. It also has given me the ability to practice fighting the bosses and has really helped with gameplay when I play for real. I've gone back and re-played this game on debug mode and find it to be a lot of fun and, other than the bosses, I don't really need the debug, although it is fun to fiddle with here and there. My favorite zone is Chemical Plant, but a part of me wishes they had updated the first zone along with the second, as I can play Chemical Plant on my old Genesis, so it's a little repetitive for me. My least favorite is the Saloon Mirage zone, which requires Tails to get through some sections, something NEVER required in the original Genesis games this game is trying to emulate. But the music is great, the settings are fun and feel like the old games, and the colors--while there's too much blue's, purples and pinks--is still very Sonic-like. I'd like a sequel to this game, if they just make sure to put in that debug and level select again.Original review: The bosses are ridiculously, frustratingly, insanely hard vs. the levels. I can breeze through most levels--might lose a life or two as it gets harder, but I've played Sonic for years, so no biggie. Then the bosses come. In Sonic 3, when they made bosses for EVERY level, it was irritating but most were easy, even the level 2 bosses for the zones. This game...they literally have the end boss from Sonic 2 (the last boss of that game) as the boss on level two of Green Hill Zone--the first zone! Studiopolis' first boss takes at least 4 lives, and Press Gardens...took over 10 tries and I never want to play that Zone again. But then there are bosses that are insanely easy, like both Chemical Plant Zone bosses (in fact, the puzzle game for Zone 2 is fun). It's very skewed.Overall, this would have been the best Sonic game in years--the levels themselves are great and I still love Chemical Plant--this would have matched up with the original Genesis games. But someone decided to make half the levels a chore by putting in bosses that slow the game down and are just irritating. And there's no ring code or hidden level select to save you here. It's a pass until they patch it and install a ring code or something of that nature, so you can at least play the game (they have!--debug mode is up and running and it really helps).

My 5 year old grandson loves playing this game. He enjoys figuring out what to do on each level. Recommend it.
