Right Part At The Right Price. (Through review to follow with photos and help tips.)
I'd like to start off by saying, I'm no mechanic. In the least bit. However, my vehicle is a 2004 Honda Accord EX, 18 years old with 240k miles. When I first noticed my Power Steering Pump having issues, I took it to a Local Chain Repair Facility. I was quoted $700. When asked what would it cost if I supplied the parts, the quote was just shy of $500. It was at this point I decided that I should start looking for replacement Pump and consider installing it myself. There was just no way I could justify spending $500-$700 plus on one part & labor on an 18 year old vehicle. I shopped Amazon and other auto part carriers for days. Doing price comparisons, part cross referencing ect... until I arrived at this sellers listing. I can't tell you how incredibly skeptical I was about purchasing this part, from this seller simply based on 2 prior reviews. Of the 2 reviews, no one posted a written review and only 1 buyer rated it 5 stars. What sold and prompted me to continue with this purchasing was the fact that I had done some homework. This seller was the "ONLY" seller that clearly displayed their part number along with both OEM & aftermarket part numbers. After some careful considerations, I decided that I'd pull the trigger and give this seller a try.I sure grateful I did. The part was not only a proper/exact fit... but I later learned that this part was not a REMAN (REMANUFACTURE) PART.IT WAS BRAND NEW!WITH FRESH OIL/FLUIDS ALREADY IN THE PUMP. NEW HIGH PRESURE LINE INSTALLED WITH THE O-RING (SEALED AND PROTECTED). THE ONLY THING THIS NEW PUMP DID NOT COME WITH WAS THE POWER STEERING PULLEY. (FYI MOST DON'T UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.)All there was to do was install it. Which was incredibly EASY!When I say "EASY", I mean just that. E-A-S-Y! But fair warning, be sure to have the right tools. Nothing crazy, however, having the right tools for the job, makes ANY JOB EASY. The pump is held on by 2 long 12mm bolts, the 2 lines (high pressure & return line) were connected with 3- 10mm nuts, 19mm nut on the pulley wheel and a 14mm bolt for the automatic belt tensioner. From start to finish, it took me about 45 minutes. Yes... 45 minutes for someone with zero experience (outside of oil changes) to replace my pump.Best of all... NEXT DAY PRIME SHIPPING, BRAND NEW PUMP (W/NEW LINE & O-RING), FLUIDS PRE-FILLED, EXACT FIT AND UNDER $70.00 (USD). DID I MENTION NO CORE CHARGE? YES... ZERO DOLLAR CORE CHARGE! AND NO NEED TO SEND BACK YOUR ORIGINALLY FAILED PUMP EITHER!TALK ABOUT BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!I would highly recommend this Power Steering Pump for any 2003-2007 Honda Accord 2.4L Engine. As for longevity... the jury is still out. So that's to be determined. But for under $70, if it lasts 2 years... even 1 year, I'm still ahead of the game. Not to mention this seller does offer, rather the sellers' part has a 1 year warranty. (Industry Standard)***FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN ADDITIONAL ADVICE, HELPFUL TIPS, TOOLS REQUIRED & HELP WITH YOUR INSTALL... STAY TUNED BELOW.Tools/Products Needed:*Sockets (MM) 10, 12, 14 & 19*Ratchet Wrench (Manual, Cordless, Electric or Pneumatic/Air)*Heavy Duty Screwdriver*Impact Wrench (Not absolutely necessary, just for convenience)*Crescent Wrenchs*Drain Pan*Needle Nose Plyers*Brake Cleaner (w/straw)*Breaker Bar*Pulley Puller (May not need but good to have on hand. Or new Pulley wheel. )*Absorbent Pads (Not mandatory, used for convenience for easy clean up, to capture spills & protection for Serpentine Belt. Power Steering Fluid can/will eat your belt.)*New Serpentine Belt (On hand depend on Age, Condition such as cracking and/or slippage & how bad leak your was prior to replacing pump.)*Floor Jack*Flashlight*Tape*1-2 QUARTS of Power Steering Fluid **Room Temperature if replacing in Fall/Winter Season.** (ONLY Honda/Asian Specific if for Honda Vehicle)*Funnel*Cell Phone (Take photos before doing ANYTHING... But more importantly, capture a photo of the Serpentine Belt Placement/Track)*New Power Steering Reservoir (to prevent old/new Fluid contamination & Reservoir has a new filter)To begin, start by jacking up the front of your vehicle until both front wheels are off the ground. When you start the removal process, start by removing the Serpentine Belt and zip tie or bungee tie it up so that it doesn't come completely off all of the other pulleys & pumps below.I mentioned an Impact Wrench, Pulley Puller and Heavy Duty Screwdriver. These items will be necessary to remove your old Pulley wheel from the old pump to install on the new pump. Because the bolt on the pulley wheel will spin as you're trying to break free the retaining bolt (19mm), thats what the Screwdriver is for. Take the Screwdriver and put it through one of the openings on the pulley wheel to keep the wheel from spinning as your trying to remove the bolt.Once you've removed the bolt, the pulley wheel should follow. If not using your hands, try to pull it off the pump. If this doesn't work use the pulley wheel Puller to remove. DO NOT USE A HAMMER OR ANY OTHER TO TO HIT OR PRY THE WHEEL FREE. This will damage the pulley wheel, thus rendered useless.Make sure when you're installing the pulley wheel, make certain it lines up with the splines on the new pump, before tightening.Once new pump and Serpentine Belt installed, attach new lines (checking for cracks). Fill new Reservoir to fill line. Without running the vehicle, turn the steering wheel all the way left/right until you meet resistance and turn back the opposite direction until meet with resistance, then turn wheels back straight. Continue this process 2 more times, then stop, check & refill Reservoir Fluid Level. Repeat. (Also check for bubbles. If you see bubbles, there's n air in the system. But no worries, continue turning the wheels (lock to lock) until you've worked out the bubbles. If there's no change in Fluid Levels.... turn the car on, then turn the wheels left to right until stop point (lock to lock) & vice-versa. Do not hold the wheel at the stop points. Once you've the Steering wheel, turn off the vehicle and check Fluid level again, add additional fluid as needed. DO NOT ADD over the max fill or fill line.If the Reservoir is full, take the vehicle for a test drive. During this drive listen for high pitch whining, grinding & howling sounds. After your test drive, return your vehicle to a flat level area and check fluid level again. Add fluid accordingly. Continue to monitor your level daily for the next few days, only adding fluid if necessary.Good luck! (I promise I'm no mechanic. This is just something I learned on my own and figured I'd share with those considering this DIY JOB. I just saved myself $500-$600, that's nearly a 1000% mark-up. The repair shop claimed it was a 2.7hr job. But yet to me 45 minutes, with zero experience to at the least.)Good luck!
