The Guilty: Will Robie, Book 4
S**K
Part 4 of Will Rogue & Company...
I enjoy David Bald u cigs books and had to read the next one on Will Robie, everyone's favorite assassin. The book took a big turn to a storyline it took another 1/4 of the book or so to realize that it wasn't returning back to the main story I thought it would. Still plenty if mystery and intrigue but not as good as the others.Onto the next book, #5 of the series, and the last of Will Rogue and 3 letter agencies...

brilliantly twisted story
Baldacci is undoubtedly the greatest living fiction writer in todays world.Nothing about”Guilty” was expected. Surprise was the essential changing element in this carefully woven story

Another great book by Baldacci
The Guilty by David Baldacci is the 4th book in his Will Robie series. I love this series, but then again, I love most of whatever David Baldacci writes. The Guilty picks up where Will is on assignment as an elite CIA Assassin, where he accidently kills a child. He cannot get past this horrific memory, and he is no longer sure of himself. Will has not seen his father since he left home over 20 years ago, and now he learns his father has been arrested for murder. He is given time off, and decides to go back home to Mississippi and find out what has happened to his father all those years he was gone. When Will tries to visit his father, he is turned away. He begins his investigation on what his father has been up to; he is surprised to learn that his father remarried, has a son, and was a judge; this from a man who was always angry and would beat him. Without the help of his father, Will finds himself in the middle of something much larger than a simple murder for revenge. The past will rear its ugly head, with many surprises, and twists that will involve many people. It is when Jessica Reel, Will’s friend and sometimes partner joins him to help decipher the truth that things get even more exciting. I love to watch Will and Jessica work together in solving crimes, and how easily they dispatch their enemies. They are an unbeatable team. However, as they get closer to the truth, the stakes are high, and the danger escalates. When his father is out on bail, Will learns more about his father, that will open him up to reveal more of himself. The last half of the book was a thriller, which I could not put down. Just when I thought I knew who the murderer was, I was blindsided by all the revelations, and twists as we reached the exciting tense action packed climax. Needless to say, I was very surprised at end.To tell too much more would be spoilers. The Guilty is a top notch mystery, suspense thriller that holds you on the edge of your seat, not to mention when both of their lives will hang by a thread. Will Robie and Jessica Reel are great team (even if they are the toughest and best assassins). I hope Baldacci keeps them together.Once again, David Baldacci gives us another fabulous thriller, which we have all come to expect from him, and throughout the book, there was not a dull moment. I suggest you read this series.

another gem
I’ve loved all of his books from the camel club through the Puller books and now this series. Very good…and personally poignant…from someone who had a less than ideal relationship with his father.

Great story
The main characters and story moved along so well, it was hard to stop reading. Probably one I’d read again.

Baldacci does it again
Page Turner. More twists than the Pearl River. Couldn't put it down. The ending was absolutely magnificent. I'll be reading book #5 shortly.

Another Great Thriller, With Mystery As Well
The Guilty is another tremendous entry in the best-selling thrillermaster’s increasingly impressive resume and the fourth instalment in the David Baldacci's Will Robie and with the added great character Reel.Robie, a black ops CIA sniper, accidentally shoots a child while assassinating a corrupt foreign leader overseas. When he freezes on his next op, unable to pull the trigger, Robie’s handler pulls him out of the field and gives him an opportunity to get his head right. Meanwhile, Robie’s father has been arrested for murder in the small Gulf Coast town of Cantrell, Mississippi, a place Will left immediately after high school and never looked back. Now forced to confront his painful past – much of which stems from his strained relationship with his father – Robie's returns to Cantrell in an effort to resolve the wounds of his past and get his professional mojo back. But the Cantrell he returns to is vastly different than the one he’d left. His father, once a second-rate lawyer, is now the county judge and living in a massive mansion with his new wife and child, a shift that drew the elder Robie more than his share of enemies in the town. The man he is accused of killing, a shifty lowlife character named Sherman Clancy, saw his once-dismal financial fortunes skyrocket and then plummet back to earth for mysterious reasons in the years between Will’s departure and Clancy’s murder. A new preacher has also arrived in town, with his three rebellious and savvy daughters seemingly neck-deep in the mystery that entangles Robie’s father. While most of the characters are well-balanced, the relationship that truly stand out among the most noteworthy is the rapport between Robie and Reel, with the professional and personal trust and respect that the two share for one another – having risked it all for each other several times before – feeling believable and compelling, not to mention being the source of a fair amount of witty banter/humour. The tense dynamic between Robie and his father is palpable as well, and their shifting relationship – and how they both deal with the wounds of the past – To me the highlights being the relationship between Robie and his father very touching moments. The mystery itself is a massive adventure and journey full of dead ends and surprising turns, with new reveals doled out at regular intervals as the story builds to its shocking conclusion, a spectacular double-twist climax that will leave even the most jaded thriller readers impressed. A thoroughly satisfying thriller but for Baldacci also a strong mystery that I have not quite read from this author, this adds to Robie and how his characters unfolds in this book.A clear four star for me... A match against his John Puller books, just love both characters.

A Solid entry
Will Robie a paid assassin, working for the the same 3 acronym agency everyone in books of this genre works in. He is of course always successful with capabilities and skills approaching superhuman, but due to a mission error while on a mission we see him questioning his ability. To get past this we see Will attempt to try and mentally piece himself back together and that involves him going back to his home town in a Mississippi. This allows the book to work from a different angle and unlike the other titles we see quiet a bit of raw emotion throughout this title. I in particular liked the first half of the book in which we see Will going into an environment he arguably feels is more alien then on warzones so its quiet interesting to read how he adjusts. As the book continues and we reach the climax the tempo kicks up considerably. We see his long time partner Jessica join the fray and body counts skyrocket as normal. While this is all good in all, I think some more creative stuff could have been done at this point aside from the cookie cutter everyone killing anything that moves. The ending I believe is one that most people may possibly have an idea of early on in the book, but at the same time its quiet outlandish. Lots of plotholes really and parts that make you realise the plot is quiet weak at times. However this book is a page turner none the less, it will whittle away your hours during the day and you will be engrossed fairly quickly. While its not the best of the books in the series, its still a solid offering none the less and worth a read.

Only kept reading to get to the end...
I loved the first three Will Robie books, but this one not so much. Felt like way to much unnecessary repetition, filler and padding. At one point in the book the author has quite obviously thought "Hmmm not been any action in a while, better squeeze some in!" and then proceeds to send two SUV's full of mercenary's for Robie and Reel to deal with, the explanation for which was quite frankly pathetic! Actually made me laugh reading it, which is something I suppose...Also what the hell happened to Julie, Vance and Min??? Like they didn't even exist! Very disappointed with the complete and utter lack of continuation.

Baldacci at his very best
I’ve read many of DB’s books. Some of them more than once. This is IMHO the best he has written. All the usual phrases apply. Page turner. Adrenaline fuelled. Heart wrenching. Un-put-downable. Moving. A rollercoaster ride in words.Simply outstanding.

Not one of the best.
I agree with other reviews I liked the setting and the different place deep south. That Jessica is always a problem with me. She is too good and too perfect. If you like the Will Robie books I am sure you will like this one. I tend to avoid them due to the female character. Plus I like my adventure books to be adventure books, this drifted off into self analyses, I assume because the Americans are obsessed with Psychiatry couches. When I started I thought it was going to be a cracker of a book and it was until Miss Jessica came on the scene. However if you like her, then you will find the whole book great.
