Excellent book, full of essential knowledge
A beautifully presented book, illustrated in a lovely style.I have been recommending this book to so many people. The content is essential and clearly written. No negative points but this is an abridged version in comparison to the larger paperback which is also excellent!

Nice book
While this is a nice concise history aimed at younger reader, I was disappointed by some of the stereotypes and inaccuracies of some of the Islamic history depicted here.

Great
I bought the book as a present for my sister and I think it is amazing, beautifully bound and illustrated but she seems very disappointed with it as it does not cover enough information about China as she had understood it would from reviews she had read. I have no complaints!

History beautifully told for older kids
For any lover of history and any fan of the adult version of this book, this beautifully illustrated and produced children’s version in a must buy and must keep. I bought it for my nine year old and she is already gripped and I can see my son is going to follow in her footsteps.

Not adapted for the readership
A nicely presented book, but the 11 year old I bought it for, who is an avid reader, couldn't be bothered with it. There was just too much skipping from topic to topic and not enough time spent on exploring and explaining each idea. And there were elements like quotations (e.g. from the Bible) where it doesn't give a reference, so a child wouldn't know why the sentence was in quotation marks or what it was supposed to mean. I don't know who it would be suitable for, really - it's not detailled enough for an adult to replace the original book, and the ideas are a bit complicated for younger readers. It's as though the language has been adapted for children, but not the structure. Nice pictures and maps, but it's clearly an adult book which has been simplified for children by someone who hasn't had a lot of exposure to real children.

Riveting
Fabulous book. The huge swath of history covered, and the way he segues between seemingly disconnected periods/areas/empires/etc. is so fun and exciting. I found myself highlighting almost every page!

Amazing book - be careful in your ordering
Buyer be aware! I wanted a hardcover copy of the "grown-up" edition of this excellent work, and inadvertently purchased the children's (hardcover) illustrated version. This is entirely my fault for not being more careful in reading the description, but I am a professional in the field, so if I can make the error I think it's likely that other people can, too. For the record, I don't at all regret the purchase - if I don't give this copy to some lucky child I will keep it in my permanent collection because it's beautiful and of high quality - and I will buy the hardcover adult edition *in addition* to this; it's such a fine and thorough piece of research and writing that anyone who's interested in East/West history should read it - but unless you're in the market for multiple editions, be alert to which version you're buying!

Amazing book!
Amazing book must read! Even the children’s edition is a good read for adults who don’t particularly like to read much.
