Easy to install, decent value. Taste, not so much
First the good parts - folks that read my reviews know I can be harsh, but fair with the not so good aspects - especially when it comes to the subcategories 😉1. Item just as described, works well with my generic whole house filter - we use well water.2. Item is as easy to install as any other filter I've used.As mentioned above, now that the good is over, let's look at the subcategories listed: Flavor, easy to install and value for money.I've already discussed the easy to install, so let's first look at value for money. I gave this 4 stars because in light of COVID pricing, prices for all of the filters I could find have increased by 2-5x more than the large quantity I ordered back in 2021. That being said though, of the filters I could find these seem to be the best bang for the buck. Finally, Taste. Let's look at this one a bit closer. When I first opened the package it had a slight dusty and plastic smell - I'm guessing from where it was stored. I wasn't really sure I really wanted to get my lips anywhere close to it. But, being the avid reviewer that I am, I had to think of those folks that were drudging through all of the different filters that are out there. So I sized up the filter - seriously, I looked at it from every angle for the best way to attack this beast to see just how tasty it might be. It appeared the best way would be to start at one of the ends. Both ends had holes with a small rubberish thingy attached. I said to myself, this must be like one of them thingies that I've seen used in pizza boxes that keep the top from smashing down and pulling up all the pizza toppings so I ripped that sucker off and threw it away - the hole didn't collapse so I really think that my thought about that thingy must have been right.I very carefully, but strongly took as big of a bite out of that filter as I could. The next day, after I came back from the dentist, I restarted my test. Oh, by the way, that filter is hard. The dentist asked how my tooth got broke and when I told him he just rolled his eyes - maybe I need a better dentist. So, back to the flavor taste. I can say that the filter really didn't taste that great, but another thought came to my mind. This thing has a hole in each end, maybe them holes are there to add supplemental flavors - smart, huh? So I looked through the fridge and saw me one of them aerosol cheese-wiz cans, well we all know everything is better with that stuff, right? So not to screw up this test any more, I used the end that I hadn't yet pulled off the rubber thingy - boy ain't that smart! I stuffed that there plastic delivery aiming piece from the cheese-wiz right in that there hole and commenced to filling up the filter. I must admit the filter did have a much better smell after doing this! When I pulled out the can I promptly ripped that rubberish thingy out of the hole, licked it clean - waste not want not - and decided that this for sure will make the filter tasty. I raised that sucker up and chomped down on it again. The next day, after returning from my dentist ... I thought to myself, this thing must be stale 'cause it's still harder that a rock. That's when I had a revelation! Maybe it needs to be cooked. Lots of stuff gets tender when you cook it, right? So I pulled out my favorite fryer - things are always better deep fried - fired it up and tossed that thing in. While I was waiting, I decided to go inside and get some tea. When I got back, somebody must have stolen my filter 'cause it wasn't in the fryer - boy, now that just ain't right.I decided that even though it was a nice day, I wouldn't try that again until I found the thief that stole that deep fried filter. I think he must of thrown something else in my fryer too cause there was something black down in the bottom.I went back inside and got a big pot of water boiling and tossed in another filter (making sure of course, that them rubber thingys were pulled out ' that's using my noggin, huh). Not knowing how long to cook it - no cooking directions came with them - I pulled out my trusty BBQ fork and commenced to poke it every now and again. I also had a full blown Brain Dump that led me to think of something about this filter. Looking at the filter again, it sure enough looks like a really big sausage, don't it? So I looked in the fridge and found me a good bun to try it with - along with all the fixens of course.I left that filter in the pot for about an hour and would have left it longer but my bun was getting soggy. So I pulled it out and plopped it right down on the bun. Unfortunately, that made the bun even more soggy. When I tried to eat it the bun fell apart and the filter fell on the floor. I called the dog to clean up the mess and she only ate the bun and wouldn't touch the filter. Then I tried to cook in in the microwave, I had some really purty fireworks go off. So I saluted and when the microwave beeped, all that was left was a puddle of goo. Too bad, 'cause that would have been a great show for the 4th of July. I tried the oven too and I still couldn't get the filter soft enough to eat. After all this work I've come to the following conclusion(s):1) the only way this "might" be edible is if it's deep fried (I still haven't found that thief yet), but I can't say because I wasn't able to try it that way.2) Unless they start putting good cooking directions on the package, I wouldn't try cooking your filters.3) Even though the water tastes about the same as the other brands do after filtering, the taste of the filter is really not that great!Hope this helps,

WILL NOT ORDER FROM HERE ANY MORE
This product was just fine for the last couple years until the last couple orders. In 2 out of 3 orders, 1 filter in the pack of 2 did not fit in the filter case. This means that HALF THE PRODUCT was no good. I'm not sure what changed but the mesh around the filter is missing too. Not that that changes the way the filter should work, it's just that I didn't have any trouble with the ones that had the mesh. Just saying that someone different is putting them together now. What's happening is the ends are glued on and they must not have been glued on right because my cap of the filter case wouldn't screw on all the way. So when I turned on the water, the case wouldn't be sealed and water would spew everywhere. The first time it happened, I figured it was a one off. But then it happened again, and now I've lost trust that quality control is where it should be. I will not spend money for a pack of 2 and have 1 in the pack not work. From now on I'm ordering my filter from the maker of my water softener. It's the exact same price. I'm not saving any money by going through amazon.
