Batman the World

International flavour
Another great collection of shirt Batman stories. Different teams of writers send artists all with their own take on Batman. I am really glad (as the title suggests) about the international flavour to the Batman stories. It is interesting for me to see how people from different cultures and parts of the world see Batman and also what makes a hero.I don't think I read a vad story in the whole book, and I did enjoy seeing other sides to Batman and other characters especially Batman and Catwoman in Paris. A great introduction story of Batman's warning to the world, though it is that art work that makes that one really special for me. There are many more great stories even a vacation story and the book finishes strong with a Batman Ninja/manga style short story.I have been very lucky with the last few collection of short stories I have read as I have enjoyed them all. Every story starts with a introduction to the writer and artist and finishes with the issue cover. Great to see different prospective on a great and complex character.

Batman is worldwide
Let’s start with the good points of which there are many, the opening story If it can be called that contains a stunning array of Gothams villains worth the price of admission alone. What follows is a series of stories from around the world told by local writers and artists from France to Spain even Poland this is less of a Batman Inc style story but a global love letter to Batman and its creators

The World is not enough
“Batman – The World” is a collection of fourteen 10-page stories by a creative team from each of the fourteen countries represented here. They are all very good, and some are more interesting than others. Many are ‘straightforward’ Batman stories set in the host country, a couple are a bit ‘political’, commenting on the state of the country, censorship, corruption, etc., and some are a bit whimsical – the French one is both whimsical and an iconic story, with Catwoman out to steal something from the Louvre, but not what we or Batman think – a superb story that should end up in future Batman anthologies. There’s even one that manages to reference the Batman/Catwoman memory dissonance from the recent Tom King series in one panel.I’ve read entire Batman volumes that were duller than any of these stories.
