Cold Steel Latin D Guard Machete

Just one pass on the grinder, and it sliced through everything. This section of the yard was quite overgrown, but this machete didn't care! I hit a couple of old bolts in the railroad ties quite hard a few times, barely marked the blade. Weight is balanced, the hand guard is very helpful for more energetic brush clearing. Well made tool for a good price.

Yea it came dull. Who cares. Took me 10 minutes with a axe puck stone and sharp as necessary. Took out some heavy scrub for a winter snow campsite. Just the tool for the job. I also have a ontario 24”. This 18 is much easier to use. Less hand and shoulder fatigue

The blade came with a fold in the edge.

I have quite a few Cold Steel machetes. Something to know about them is that they are well made, but the finish leaves something to be desired. It usually means that the edge will need some work. This sample seems to have been put through the finishing process backwards. Now looking at the picture it does indeed show the black finish on the edge. This is not a mistake. For some reason these machetes were ground then painted. What you get is a machete that has to be filed on to get the edge to show. I removed two stars for this as it must be changed. The handle is nice. A little slick, but I knew that going into it. Luckily it is made out of a hard plastic and can be cut with a file quite well. Some CS machetes have plastic handles with too low durometer so it gets fuzzy when I try to rough it up with a file. Overall and okay machete. Would be great if they finished it properly.

I was afraid this machete would have too much flex but I needn't have worried. It's solid and made of 1055 carbon steel, which is good stuff. I am not sorry that I bought this Latin D-guarf machete at all. Cold Steel strikes again with yet another top notch, yet affordable product.

Good value. Blade is medium thin (this is a Machette - not a Pirate Sword). Steel is good, sharpen with hand-file, not bench grinder...if you use a power grinder and see "blueing" spots, you've just ruined the temper of the steel in that area and it will be a future "dent" in your blade.

A decent feeling machete with a swashbuckling style, commanding you to tell those branches to walk the plank with a pirate voice. But this will only BE A COSTUME PROP unless you sharpen this machete professionally - it arrived with a DULL NON-FUNCTIONAL EDGE that is beyond the ability of the layperson to sharpen evenly while preserving the metal's temper. This is the first Cold Steel product I've ever received that was not sharpened - I'm hoping this is not a sign of a new direction for Cold Steel.

I got this one here for just $16. As it's only 2mm thick it takes a vicious edge. Astonishingly it still takes severe abuse in stride and shows no rools, dents or chipping. Defenitely recommended.
