The wood slats are made from African teak (Iroko), preferred for outdoor use due to its resistance to moisture and varying climate conditions. It's also resistant to natural decomposition and insects. African teak has a natural protective oil within its grain, and it's a stable wood that keeps its shape after being "worked." Over time, African teak turns from a creamy yellow to a chocolate brown. It can be left to weather naturally, or may be periodically treated with teak oil to preserve the natural color and moisture. The frame is constructed from thicker gauge steel, providing excellent stability and strength while adding minimally to the weight. The steel components are treated for rust-resistance in a multi-stage proprietary process, prior to receiving a specially formulated polyester-baked powder coating that enhances scratch resistance and protection from the elements (including UV rays).
