The Bossa Nova Songbook Piano, Vocal and Guitar Chords

By far the finest of all books on Bossa Nova. It features both piano and guitar chords, which displays actual jazz voicings. But not only that, the book also includes every major Bossa Nova hit, including Gentle Rain, an impossible find in any book. I don’t get the two critics posting bad reviews of this book. The lead sheets are too long? That’s nonsense because it’s not a real book but an arrangement book. And that’s defined in example by the song The Waters of March which is a full 10 pages of the book! If you like Bossa Nova, this is THE book to buy. It’s relatively inexpensive considering all of the songs included. See my included song list. This is the finest book produced by Hal Leonard. Don’t hesitate to purchase this for real Bossa Nova!

This is a great compilation of Bossa Nova songs written at an intermediate level. This songbook contains many of the well known Bossa Nova songs, and I gave this songbook a five star rating because it contained two hard to find songs; "Gentle Rain" and "Look To The Sky". "Gentle Rain" is a soft, sad song from the sixties that many of us may remember but can't recall its name. It is available in another truly beautiful, but much more difficult arrangement in Barbra Streisand's newest songbook. The arrangement in this Bossa Nova Songbook is closer to the standard version and is much easier to play. I bought this book because I thought it worth its price simply because of this one arrangement. Frankly, I always think buying a songbook is a better deal than just buying the sheet music. I always find another song that I didn't even know that I wanted. This was the case with this songbook; I found a very nice song, "Look To The Sky". This is a song I would have missed if I hadn't purchased this songbook. I think you will like this song, as well; and I whole-heartedly recommend this songbook.

the lead sheets are too long. You are better off buying a real book. Also, the lyrics are sometimes in portuguese and sometimes not. I prefer the portuguese and a little bit of consistency would have been nice too. Not super excited about this purchase

An inexpensive intro to some classic tunes - but I found the arrangements disappointing. Some of the harmonies are not even close to the original music.

I bought this book primarily for the song "Wave", however, most of the songs I have found quite useful and are beautiful arrangements.

The music has been too dumbed down. The chords are very basic and lack the harmonic complexity Bosa Nova is known for.
