Great for the heatwave
This is the first AC unit we bought after extensive research. We work from home and devided after last years' record breaking temperatures to invest in an AC for this year.We settled for the Midea 12000 BTU due to our lounge layout with adjecent open plan dining room extension and open stairs to the first floor. It does the job well, after about 10 minutes you can really feel the difference. Excellent solution for our 2 dogs, one who is a puppy and struggles with the heat; and an absolute godsend in the current heatwave. As other reviews said it is quite noisy but we expected that from the size of this machine. It's very heavy but fairly easy to move on the castors but wouldn't be able to get it upstairs easily. The controls are simple enough to figure out and the biggest selling point for us settling on this machine was the Alexa compatability.Only negative hence knocking a star off is the window kit, which is only suitable for sliding windows. We only have tilted windows like most UK houses and had to buy a separate kit. Minor issue really but one to be aware off as an additional expense.Overall recommend this AC unit for anyone struggling with the heat.

Remarkably quiet
This is remarkably quiet compared to my previous air con unit. VERY happy with that. It's says it's 65db, but if that's the case, my old one was lying. Old one was 9000 BTU, but this new one's 12000 BTU.It's also coping quite nicely with keeping my open plan kitchen/living room cool during the hottest part of the day. 28°C outside, 24°C inside. No sweaty Betties in this house!I'm a happy customer.

Very Happy with this purchase and Dog loves it
I live in an apartment that has massive windows and during the summer he heat is unbearable . I have a large dog who is double coated fur , he started to have problems with the heat so i decided to purchase this item. After extensive research i found this and i have been not let down. The room in which the unit is in is cold but also the adjustment rooms are cooling down. My dog is loving the cold.Only one problem i faced was the outlet for the pipe that goes out of the window , as my window is a standard UK window as opens from the side i had to purchase a window seal for this outlet. But its a small price to pay.

Big Daddy saved the day.
Having already purchased another portable AC from a major supermarket, then dying on us after 2 days, we needed something reliable and do a better job.Midea 12,000 BTU worked fantastically. Chilled our toasty loft extension which could hit 3-4c above the outdoor temperature and retains it through out the night.Well worth the money and the WiFi control is great, you don’t have to go up to switch it on in the hot toasty room. I know… lazy but it’s technology!

Brilliant product - an essential for the British summer
THIS PAGE:Do NOT get a 9000 BTU portable air con, it will not be powerful enough. I got a 12000 one for £460. They have done a bait and switch and are now offering a 9000 one for the same price. Not on! Do not buy unless 12000 BTU for about £460 (you are getting straight up scammed).UPDATE FOR THE CURRENT HEATWAVE:This is by far the best product I have ever purchased. Here are my recommendations on how to get the best out of it:1. Leave it on ALL the time when the weather is hot. If you let your room get to 30C and then turn it on, it will take a long time/struggle to cool it down to the set temperature (e.g. 19C). If you leave it on, set at your temperature, it will be able to cope much better throughout the day when the temperature increases.2. I got a hinged window kit. I cannot say with any evidence whether it improves it, but I get the feeling it does. Before, when putting my hand there, I could feel hot air rushing back in. Window kit in place, I don't feel hot air rushing in.3. The instruction manual is extremely confusing and quite poorly written. Here is a translation from Chinglish to English:COOLING MODE: put the hose outside your window, turn it on. I have not needed to, but to empty the water that condenses, open the bottom plug and let it drain. I THINK you can use the top plug to continuously drain to avoid this (see 'CONTINUOUS DRAIN PLUG' below).DRY MODE: close your windows and put the hose inside and turn it on. Use the included pipe and attach it to the top plug. Attach the other end to, e.g., an empty 2L bottle and watch it fill up. Dry mode dries very well and quickly. It keeps the temperature the same, but the humidity should plummet if you use it correctly.CONTINUOUS DRAIN PLUG (the top plug): attach the pipe to it, and the other end in something like an empty bottle. Water drains out of this when the air con is running, avoiding water collecting in the built in water tank. I found that if I did not do this, it could make the air more humid. I imagine because water condensed water re-evaporates out of the water tank when running.AUTO EVAPORATION: some air cons need emptying a lot. This one does not seem to, I think because most of the water that gets condensed, gets re-evaporated and shot out the exhaust pipe. Could be wrong.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Pros:1. Much more powerful than I expected2. Cools down a hot stuffy room very quickly3. Product feels very high quality4. The remote control is very fancy and the buttons even glow in the dark5. My brothers are well jealous of my new found summer comfort6. One day of use and no need to empty any water tankCons1. Louder than I expected, but can be made quieter by changing to cool mode (from auto) and lowering the fan speed2. Heavier than I expected - not a big problem but little old ladies should get some help before ordering this3. Window kit not suitable for majority of UK windows (only 'good' for sliding windows but seems too long to actually fit) - at the moment have hose poking out the window with no kit and product still works great. Will get a hinged window kit at some point4. Product smelt very chemically after turning it on for the first time. I don't think my lungs or body appreciated that...

Works great after 3 years
I owned it for past 3 summers and it is a life saver over heat waves. And it still cools at the same level as it did brand new. Definitely recommend it especially on these hot days.

Effective but noisy
The unit is easy to use but the venting system is designed for sash or sliding windows. It can be made to fit British style hinged opening windows but not easily. The unit is very noisy in use. TV has to be on loud. We cooled down the bedroom with it but couldn't sleep with it on. It is expensive when it will only be used for a week or two in a British summer but it did make a huge difference to comfort in the heat of summer
