Has anyone attempted using a yagi antenna? what dbi are you using? i.e. 2.4ghz 25dbi wifi type?

Yes, Any [wifi] 2.4ghz Yaggi will work. I have got near 2 miles LOS. I will also say I found using a "breakout board" helped overall performance - something like this - diymore 5pcs NRF24L01+ 8 pin Socket Breakout Adapter 3.3V Regulator Plate Board + Wireless Transceiver Module.
