What is the spring for?

The spring on the vise is used to hold material out of the way while you are tying other material onto the hook. For example, if you are tying a wooly bugger, you can tie in the hackle and place the end of the hackle in the spring while you tie in the chenille for the body.

Can you explain why this has a prop 65 warning? The answer from 12/19 doesn't explain why.

I would like to help as I have the same vice however, I have no idea what a prop 65 is, never any mention of such a thing on mine.

Can this Hook Vise be used to Snell up 1/0 hooks?

I only use my hands to snell hooks no matter what size. If they are too small buy a pair of 3X magnification reading glasses to bring the process to your eyes better. I just used the vice for tying sea bass rigs and porgy rigs with some fashaboo and one of the florescent colored ( Pink or Lime Green) to give the dropper loops more pizzazz... I hope this helps....

Update: After a few weeks of sticking with it it has gotten a bit better. I added a star because it does work, just needs a little break in. This vice is cheap, and that is the best thing about it. The hook seems to slip out of the vice unless I have it as tight as I can clasp it. I have adjusted it and can make it work, but for my son (12) who is just learning it causes frustration especially when trying to finish the fly.
