Unsure exactly but I bought XL for my husband who has a 44” chest and it’s ok. It fits ok but not lots of fabric to wrap round. Would suggest getting a size up for a roomier fit.

Q: I'm short with a 44" waist. Which size?

I bought XL for my husband who has a 36-38” waist and it just fits ok. So maybe not this model for your waist size. Length will be fine.

Q: Slim older man 5ft 2 is a small ok

I would imagine so! I bought XL for my 6ft, not so slim husband and there is plenty of room in it. Great for after a shower.

Q: Can the robe be tumble dried?

This robe is 100 0/0 cotton so a cool tumble dry is possible but save the planet and hang it outside to dry
