Definitely not bright red. Not burgundy either. Muted brownish red.

JorSof,As a seller of this item and I have personally seen it as well, it is actually very nice, I was impressed with it. I think the picture is true of the colors but please understand every monitor is set up somewhat different so it really depends on your monitor, and I have found out that you will always have people that will love it, and people that won't. I'm sure if this really helps you but it's a very honest answer. The red is nice, not over powering in my opinion and it's more of a burgundy vs fire engine red.
