Spend the weekend with Hazel!
I love this woman. She is an excellent teacher. I learned how important it is to buy the right paper, invest in sable brushes (yes, they make a difference!), trust your eye, and don't be afraid to go outside and experiment with buildings and animals and unusual objects. Hazel shows you how to build lights and darks and her enthusiasm is infectious. I would love to take a class with her, but this DVD is the next best thing.

Encouraging and mostly fun
I only recently "found" Hazel Soan on YouTube. She's excited about painting and this DVD clearly shows it. I could have liked it more if she had left out the animal painting section completely, but the rest of her offerings are well worth the 90 minutes of film. She paints fast and loose, but very believable work. I have since purchased another book by Hazel.

Hazel Soan is a great artist. She has some good insights. Draw back: she skips over some things, while wasting some time in the beginning.
