Better than the original!
I had the original Perfect Pull up for years, and it was great. Recently the wide grip started to tear on me.Plus, I was also starting to feel a little extra pressure on my shoulders, so I decided it was time for an upgrade. The Elite Ergonomic version of the Perfect Pull has been great so far!It was easy to assemble and feels sturdier than the original. It fits securely on my door and has not chipped, scratched or damaged the paint. It also has more grip area, compared to the original, so you can try an assortment of grips and be comfortable and feel secure while you workout. The slight angle on the wide grip(compared to the original)really helped alleviate the shoulder pressure I was starting to feel.I use it regularly, about 3xs a week, while doing P90X videos and it has held up great with no issues so far.

Pull-up bar recommended by TheWirecutter
I don't always agree with TheWirecutter recommendations, but I believe they've found a gem in this pull-up bar. I bought the Perfect Fitness Pro model at MSRP ($34.99). I've been using it for about two weeks now with no complaints.Although other bars may be cheaper (like the Sport Compact model from this same company) I find that the round foam contact creates a point of high pressure that may end up damaging your doorway molding. On the Pro, I'm more confident that the large surface area contacting the molding will better distribute the pressure and prevent any damage. I'll know for sure once I've used this pullup bar longer. I think the $10 premium over other standard doorway pull-up bars is justified by this one point. I don't have to go wrapping the contacts with rags to try to prevent damage, so it's saved me a bit of hassle. The grips over the padding are useful in letting you adopt a grip wider than the doorway. Useful if you have wide shoulders or something. For me personally, the wide grip is a little too wide for me, and I end up gripping the non padded area for my wide grip (I'm 5'10 with average width shoulders/wingspan). Regardless, it's a nice feature for those who need it.There's a storage area in the back for the Allen keys needed to assemble the pull-up bar. Nice touch, but I'm not sure how often I'll be assembling and disassembling this product. The only nitpick I have is that when the bar isn't hooked into the doorway, there's a little bit of left-to-right wobble if you hold onto the curved pieces and shake. It was a little off-putting, but when hooked on the door it feels sturdy as a rock. No flexing or wobbling when I've been using it for the past two weeks. I'm 5'10 and 150lbs for your reference.Other than that, it really functions like any other doorway pull-up bar. Easy to pop off and stow away somewhere.I recommend this bar if you need a really wide grip or are tired of damaging your molding/having to pad other bars!

Not the one pictured, but good enough....
I ordered this "original" one because it is (pictured as) the one with the foam all the way across the bar and has more adjustment holes. I think what they have done is changed it but still kept the same "31010" P/N designation. It is still the same form factor shown, rated at 300lbs, easy to assemble, and has good/better hardware fasteners. The pad-protectors glued onto the rectangular doorway 'stops/guards' were glued on a bit wonky, but still work well enough. If I want to later I can take a heat gun and gently warm/remove/reposition them easily enough, so no big deal. All in all I'd say its well designed and sturdy. While I will write to the company and request some additional foam pads, I don't have high expectations. If I want further adjustment capability or more foam, I can customize it myself easily enough. For now, it fits my doorway application perfectly, and I like it.I would say ...for the price?..., just buy it.===============Oh, last comment, because I am attaching some gear on it (it is strong enough to readily support incorporation of my band exerciser and my doorway punching bag assembly), AND SO FOR SAFETY's SAKE I don't want it to move at all, I have added some clamps for ANCHORing the "rectangular doorway 'stops/guards'". With those not moving the thing is rock solid. And I can still add a third clamp to the top rail if want/need be.I mention this so anyone figuring on trying adding anything to it thinks to PRACTICE CARE so you don't presume it will just stay in place if you add anything (that its not natively designed for. If used in any way that it is not designed for (including swinging!!) it can and will move and could cause harm/injury.

Fits large door frames better than most available pullup bars
I have an older house with a 7" deep frame (also called wall thickness in other pullup bar specs) and 4.5" tall trim, this bar fits my door frame easily while others I've purchased and returned weren't even close to fitting. There is a little play in the bar when you are hanging it on the frame, but it is very sturdy when in use. Foam pads are good for protecting the paint & the frame.
