Sometimes hard, but good.
I have just started High School. I liked the book, but sometimes it was hard to understand what it was saying: to follow the directions. It wants you to add a lot of details in your writing and sometimes I couldn't think of any. Also, it promised answers or examples so we could see what others had done with the examples, but there were only examples at the beginning of each exercise, not any sample answers on the exercises we were working.

Great resource!
I just received this book yesterday and I love it! Can you advise me on how to obtain the Teacher's Booklet referenced in the description? If I've overlooked the directions on how to do that, I apologize. Thank you! From the description:"Teacher's Booklet -- guidance for teaching with this particular student worktext, including pacing suggestions and answer keyFREE TEACHER'S BOOKLET (DOWNLOAD)FREE TEACHER'S BOOKLET (MAILED PRINT COPY)"

My sixteen year old niece/nephew have had very little high quality English instruction at their local high school (short staffed), and having the kids make their way through this book summer (along with other Killgallon books) has greatly improved their ability to write well. I teach at a full-time at a university in Minnesota, and I plan on making students who struggle with writing in my psychology courses aware of the Killgallon workbooks.

Works for my kids
My kids use the approach in this book to learn writing sentences and paragraphs. They start to pay attention to patterns in books they read and naturally write sentences that model after their favorite authors. This is how we used to learn writing, by reading and modeling after great writers. This book makes it more systematic and transparent process for children.
