Often called the best rock 'n' roll film ever made, this high-powered, high-voltage comedy features music by Fats Domino, Little Richard and the Platters AND introduces the world to a blonde bombshell named Jayne Mansfield! Mansfield is sensational as moll Jerri Jordan to Edmond O'Brien's Marty Murdock, the mobster determined to make her a singing star. The trouble begins when Murdock hires talent agent Tom Miller (Tom Ewell) to groom her: Miller quickly realizes that she can't sing a note...AND that he's completely in love with her! This CinemaScope color film hilariously spoofs both musicals and gangster films and also features sparkling performances by Ray Anthony, Julie London, the Treniers and Abbey Lincoln!

Classic Flim!
"The Girl Can't Help It" is a true treasure. Where else can you see the likes of :Little Richard, Fats Domino, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran & The Platters. Along with the great Tom Ewell, Jayne Mansfield, and Edmond O'Brien. This 1956 film is both fun, in great color (by Deluxe), along with an amazing soundtrack; and YES it will play on your DVD player in the USA.

Certainly worth watching
Several reviewers said this would not play on their DVD players, so I was a bit concerned. It was listed as a region 0 DVD, meaning it should play just about anywhere, but several folks said it would not play in their machines. It arrived the next day and it played just fine. I had to adjust the TV's screen format, but after that, it was great.

Even the "region code 0" dvd will not play on any of our players.
I purchased this DVD as a gift for my mother, the 'region code 0' version which should play in the US and it will not play on any dvd/blu ray player either of us owns. The version listed for sale now says it will not play on US players but the one I bought said region 0. Luckily it wasn't expensive but it was just a complete waste of money to buy something useless. Beware.

Good story
I enjoyed the story line and the acting. Jane was wonderful. However the picture was fuzzy at times. The color was not consistent.

the brightness quality of this dvd is poor.
I just purchased this movie as a gift. I'm very disappointed as to the quality of the picture. The colors and brightness of the movie are very dull. I compared it to a recorded version that I have from the TV (TMC). The recorded version is much brighter and colorful. The only saving grace is that the sound seems to be OK.

Waste of time.
I have always enjoyed the movie on TV. Decided to buy it for myself. Wasted my time and money. It doesn't play due to area limitations.

The Most To Say The Least
A wonderful movie that retains the magic I first witnessed in 1957. If only they - the movie big wigs and the hirelings I guess. Had restored the 50s coverage that they cut out for 60s screenings. I suspect to offer more comedy and less rock'n'roll. Oh the pain the crime the outrage. Where did the solo from Eddie Cochran's '20 Flight Rock' go. Where Eddie rocked from foot to foot as he played. And 'Be Bop A Lula' in the rehearsal room where as they rocked. The framed paintings of US presidents went crashing to the floor. Richard lost classic moments as did many of the others. And where's the trailer that showed newsboy ' Fog Voice' Wilson ( as I recall) singing a snatch of 'Blue Suede Shoes'. By the way me and the gang now. Like the old men now dug and dig The Treniers. I can only hope than one day/year/decade this movie is restored. Fingers crossed.

DVD is in letterbox ratio and not 16 X 9 as stated on the listing
I bought this DVD to replace my existing copy which is a cinemascope letterbox version. I was excited when I saw the listing on Amazon which stated that this was 16 X9 anamorphic when I received it, it turned out to be the same pressing as my original DVD, so a total waste of time and money, I did, however, get a no-quibble refund and wasn't required to return the disc. I am now left with two useless copies of the film. The disc is distributed by Hollywood Classics Ltd on behalf of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment inc. under the Second Sight banner. I have noticed other titles that have been released by this outfit have had the same problem of being letterbox cinemascope productions. Does Twentieth Century Fox Know what is going on with some of these classic films?

Silly but enjoyable film - Shame about the screen format
This is a daft but enjoyable film with 50's RnR greats performing, albeit cut down somewhat with Cochran's twenty Flight rock missing the solo. A real drawback is the picture format that doesn't even approach filling the screen which in this day and age is simply ludicrous.

Girl Can't Help It
I'm old enough to remember seeing this at a now long gone cinema when it was first released, so I knew I would enjoy the album. The story line is pretty feeble, mainly about a dumb blonde, played by Jayne Mansfield, aspiring to be more than just a dumb blonde but the real appeal of the film is the cameo performances by some ofthe great early rock & rollers including Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Eddie fontaine,The Platters, Fats Domino and Little Richard amongst others. If you are looking for a film with a great storyline and great acting, this isn't it but if you want a film with more than a dozen great rock & roll performances by the original 50's artists in their heyday, you'll love this film

I didn't realise...
I remember being hustled out of the cinema when the trailer of this film came on. It was clearly not my mother's cup of tea - and her young sons were definitely not going to be allowed to see it!!However, it was billed as a Rock and Roll movie so I thought I would take a trip down memory lane. I'm glad I did. I didn't realize there were sexual innuendoes until I saw John Waters' interview. This really added to my appreciation of the film. I did recall that Jayne Mansfield had a fantastic figure: 42-18-36 but to see this in the flesh as it were really brought home the caricature aspect of the whole film.
