No removable plates...but not really needed. Do not use pam type spray on non stick...ruins the finish. So easy to clean...just use wet paper towels to steam off the gunk and then I use tongs but not scratching the finish...just rub the residue and it lifts off. I really like my Hamilton Beach. Hope this helps.

Q: How thick of a piece of meat can you sear?

With steak anything to about an inch. I have also seared thick chicken breast and it works out great. Thick porkchops and hamburgers work also.

Q: Does it open completely (180) for table top grilling?

No. At least, not that we have tried. It is meant to be a press grill.

Q: Is there a trey to catch the grease o marinade?

Not actually a tray but a tall cup. Small grease lip is on the left side of grill and you put the cup under the lip. The cup does not attach to the grill. Disappointing because if you accidentally move the grill or cup moves grease goes on countertop. I had grease splatters on right side countertop while cooking 2 strip steaks. Returned for grill that has grease tray attached.
