CME WIDI Jack Premium Bluetooth MIDI Interface

This WIDI is the best that I’ve used. In perceivable, latency and accuracy. This is a must have if you need to create a wireless connection with external gear. I love CME products!

I'm not used to blutooth devices being this usable. Especially when they aren't from the same company. My use case, I needed to make an XKey 37 Air work with a Polyend Tracker+. For one, make sure you get the one with TRS cables. I ordered the one with 1/8 inch midi cables. I needed 1/4 TRS Roland style, to work with the Type-B input on the Tracker+. They do offer both. Just don't mess up like I did. Thankfully they sell the cables I did need for ten bucks in a pack of two, so I didn't end up having to buy a complete kit twice. In the meantime, I have a disgusting 5 adapter kludge making it work. Second, if you are just using it to receive midi from a device and output it to something, you'll need to power it with something. It takes power from the midi output. I can't give up my midi output on the Polyend Tracker+ to power it. And there's a very important reason I can't so I'm going to share it. If you are like me, and you are trying to make an external blutooth keyboard work with the Polyend Tracker, or Tracker+, and you try to use both the input and output so you can power a Widi Jack without using another usb-c cable, you'll end up spending another 70 dollars on a CME Midi Master box with built in blutooth, so you can then reconnect your tracker to the rest of your midi gear. At that point you will figure out that your blutooth keyboard, that only had ONE thing it could connect to, will try connecting to your fancy new midi/widi hub and tracker at the same time. CONSTANTLY. And it will put you in a situation where you are constantly fixing this nonsense by unplugging things in order, and plugging them back in an order, so it works right. For a few hours. Until it gets messed up again. yeah. Just source some USB-C Power, and power the WIDI Jack with it, and save 70 bucks and torture. Keep it simpler. So..... I needed external usb-c power. Thankfully I had no issues finding a spare USB-C cable. My surge suppressor has some 3amp USB-A style sockets, so I used a USB-A to USB-C cable to provide it power. Then my XKey 37 Air connected almost immediately. If you wait a minute it will always connect. If you are impatient, disconnect the power to the Widi Jack, then reconnect the USB-C, and it will connect almost immediately. What this gives me, is the ability to keep a really decent 37 key velocity and polyphonic aftertouch sensitive keyboard nearby, all charged up, that will always be able to talk to my Polyend Tracker+. That I can point at one of five midi destinations. Currently a Bree6, A Trigon 6, a Typhon, a TR-08, and a Pro-800 that is about to be replaced by an Artemis. And it's heaven. This is my dream rapid song creation platform, and this tiny little piece makes it all possible.

You will likely need a connecting device. I am using the WIDI Jack on my GT-1000 CORE and a WIDI Bud Pro on my "Home Studio Laptop" or on my mobile laptop that I use for Church Worship Services/Events. Having both WIDI Jack and WIDI Bud Pro allows me to connect my GT 1000 CORE to either of my laptops very quickly and easily without any hassle. Initially, I only had the WIDI Jack connecting to the laptops internal Bluetooth, where it connected but did not allow the BOSS Tone Studio to send or receive messages from the CORE device. Once I added the Bud Pro, the problem was solved. This was definitely worth the money spent!

What a cool little dongle. I used this to add a wireless footswitch to my Boss RC-500 Loop Station and it works excellently. The connectivity is fast and consistent, and it runs off of most midi devices internal power meaning it doesn't need it's own supply though it does have a USB-C jack for this purpose if needed, making it compatible with older gear that may not have modern midi specs. The included cables are just what i needed, though their short length might not suit all applications. Make sure you choose the correct package with the proper cables for your setup. Totally worth it for the convenience it provides in not having to run more cables to an already crowded floorspace.

…but connection is just to inconsistent for me. Sometimes it just seems to forget what it’s been paired too even if you used it with something a day or 2 ago. Sometimes it shows as connected but still not output/input. I’ve used it with hardware and soft synths on smart devices. Have a couple different apps that help with hookup. Works better with smart devices with Bluetooth already built in. I’ve created groups with devices that use these and when they work, they’re awesome. Low latency and no wires. A MIDI users dream. If your equipment moves around though, or sometimes connects to some devices and not others, things can get annoying when you attempt to pair WIDI masters back up. Just my experience. Probably user error.

So far this product has been great for me, and has been working exactly as I hoped. Its been pretty much plug and play with no troubleshooting for me. Haven't noticed any sort of delay. However I don't really use this with a bunch of blue tooth midi so not sure if it has drawbacks there, I usually just have two devices connected - a synth or sampler connected to a Bluetooth midi controller. I have also been able to connect it with my ipad (using korg gadget app) and it has worked to sync clock and midi input. - pros - given you have compatible devices, is pretty much plug and play. haven't had a issue connecting yet. - can be externally powered via usb c or powered by the midi out from your device. - not locked down to a specific midi cable type given you have the adapters. - works with A and B midi - has a built in magnet and comes with a separate sticky magnet so you can mount it on your devices if you have the room. cons- - the female jacks on the unit are NOT 3.5mm TRS and for some reason they are 2.5mm TRS. Not the end of the world but strange to me since 3.5mm is (in my experience) way more common plus I already owned a plethora of 3.5mm cables and 3.5mm to midi cables. It also seems strange that they picked this because the size difference between the two isn't that big. This information was also pretty buried on the store page so that came as a surprise when I received it. I want to think there was a valid reason for this, but it stinks of a strategy to get you to buy their cables. - the blinking status light is kind of bright and distracting, especially if you are transmitting a clock over midi ( it blinks on midi input and blinks repeatedly clock sync). When I am just goofing around with my sampler and controller at my desk I literally hide the widi jack underneath something or else the blinking light kind of drives me crazy because its surprisingly bright and piercing.

When it works, it's great. When it doesn't work (which happens regular), it can turn you gig into a train wreck.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Super tiny. If you can't find a place for this on your pedalboard you might have a problem :). It's easy to set up. If you don't use it for a while you will need to reconnect the bluetooth via the WIDI app but other than that it's been maintenance free. I use it with the free MIDI PAD App on my iPhone and iPad to jump quickly between presets on some Line6 gear I use. It's a great tool if you want to use simple MIDI from a mobile device or laptop.

Una de las mejores alternativas para agregar MIDI Bluetooth a cualquier sintetizador. En mi caso lo utilizo sintetizadores que no son compatibles con el WIDI Master o que requieren corriente externa para funcionar, si emnbargo gracias a ala variedad de cables opcionales que ofrece CME para el WIDI Jack, encontré el combo perfecto para usarlo con un Tenori-On. La funcionalidad es estupenda, soporta sincornizarse hasta con 4 dispositivos al mismo tiempo, incluso de otras marcas, como los nanoStudio de Korg. Puede operar sin corriente externa a la perfección, pero tiene la opción de conectarse por USB-C para tomar corriente si se conecta a un dispositivo sin voltaje en los puertos MIDI. Las únicas cosas en contra quizás serian el diseño y el no tener quizás una batería recargable interna, para que pudiera seguir siendo totalmente wireless cuando lo requiera.
