Question 1

How would they work and hold up on a mid weight hiking boot (Oboz Yellowstone) for icy streets and wooded hills but not particularly rough terrain.

Rewriting - I initially thought you were going to be hiking in Yellowstone. I looked up the boots and they'll be just fine on them. My shoe size is 8 and I have a small and that's just right (albeit running shoes, lower profile than the boots). I have had the Nanospikes for two season (starting three now) and have ran with them in heavily wooded areas and on lots of ice (running on frozen lakes in MN is great). The Nanospikes work best on pure glazed ice and the deeper the snow, the less effective they are. I try to avoid pavement as it's abrasive and a large component of material is rubber. When I'm in the woods, I try to avoid sticks getting jabbed into them. Thus far, durability has exceeded my expectations.  I usually buy these types of things from REI as I expect them to get shredded quickly (REI will allow returns if done within a reasonable time - due to durability failures) but these are an anomaly in that they've lasted for quite some time.

Question 2

Will these be damaged if I run on roadway that doesn't have snow/ice? In the winter, some parts of my running route will be icy and other parts fine.

Accepted Answer

Probably over time, but this is what these are made for. I've used them a lot in that very situation, where most of my route was fine but there were ice patches I didn't want to slip on. There has been no damage, though I think due to the nature of how they're used, they may wear out more quickly than, say, microspikes. Hope that helps.

Question 3

For a technical trail run (rocky), should I wear these over my trail running shoes or my normal running shoes?

I usually wear them over my road shoes thinking that more surface area from the flatter bottoms would hold the spikes out further. I wasn't sure if  the nobby tread might not line up with the spikes and they would lose their gripping ability. Just tonight however I ran five miles on a frozen icy dirt road in my trail shoes and they performed perfectly. It was like running on dry dirt. I haven't worn them on any single track trails yet though.

Question 4

I suppose nobody should wear these on wooden floor, and they make loud noises when jogging on cement ?

Yes, these would definitely damage a wooden floor. If you are going to wear these inside your house, I would only wear them on carpet. These can be "loud" on cement or paved streets, but not ear-piercing or unbearable.
