The device is pre-loaded with all sorts of brain numbing apps, movies and games that are nearly impossible to delete from the device (because if you do, the attractive thumbnail stays in your Recents to get your kid to download the app again!) . It is impossible to customise the screen so you are in control over what your kids consume and it is impossible to find any tutorial on how to achieve that. Unlike what Amazon claims, the recommendations that are thrown at the kids faces on Home screen, For You screen etc... are not always age appropriate. It really is a piece of hardware designed to sell those poor kids more stuff. As a parent, I don't have the time to go through hundreds of menus and sub-menus in the "Parent account" to set up the device. As always, these menus are purposely convoluted to get you to give up and and let Amazon decide what your kids consume... You are better off buying a device for adults (with a tough case) and set it up yourself. Don't let Jeff decide for you.

This is a nice tablet, bought as an upgrade from the younger version. We decided on this one as apparently the child can call pre-approved contacts which we thought would be good for our son with family that live far away.Turns out, after spending a full afternoon and evening trying to set this up and on chat with amazon customer service that you can't actually do this in the UK, it's a US feature. It definitely doesn't state that in the description... Just something to be aware of as this is very misleading.Otherwise this is a pretty good tablet, responsive, quick (especially compared to the older kids tablet), nice case which looks more grown up while still offering protection.

Bought two of these for my girls aged 6 and 8. They are brilliant! The 1 year free kids subscription is a life saver too! They are able to do their rockstars and mathletics on these which really helps free up my own devise.You can track and monitor what they have been playing on.. and for how long. How long they have been reading a book as well! Set daily timers and limits. It’s overall just great! It also comes with an accidental break warranty. The parent portal is brilliant for keeping up to date with everything.Only one downfall.. the book section can show some pretty graphic pictures of ancient Egyptian mummies and killer sharks. I contacted amazon and asked them to remove the recommendation section from their devices.. but it can’t be done. So I just download a few books for them now so they don’t need to go onto that section. Just be weary if you have children that are very easily scared :)

Lovely tablet. My daughter enjoys it. The battery life is good, lasts long. The casing is slightly smaller than the Fire HD8 and I would say its age appropriate. It's a good buy, would recommend. And of course the one year added Amazon kids subscription is awesome

I am slightly confused by this and it may have been how i set it up.I linked it to my account with a profile for my daughter who is 7 but she now has access to all my photos and my apps all auto installed although i said i didnt want them to. I did install amazon kids again i think i may have done this wrong but it wasnt made clear as she still has access to older content.I havent had the time to go back and reset it to factory and start again but it should all be made much clearer how to set up a kids kindle. So they don't have access to to everything on mine...

Overall ok, but no easy way of managing settings remotely from the kindle kids+ app. Age appropriate YouTube videos are a problem as well due to there being no YouTubekids app so videos need to be individually added which means your kids will constantly nag you. Have tried adding the web version of youtubekids.com but the settings don’t persist between sessions so constantly have to set it up. Love the curates content kids+ provides but these issues are making me consider whether to bite the bullet spend a bit more and buy an iPad

The new kids fire is so much better than previous editions. It is much faster and does what you ask it to do first time! The change of charging port is also much better as the previous versions always seemed to cause faults. Definitely recommend!

a little dissapointed at the HD PRO extra £40 for the same as the one i bought in October.Just the case is a little slimmer not sure if its as secure as the other version. SD card comes out very easily when being used and have to take the fire out to put the card back in.But it is great for kids not good enough for adults.
