I have used several of these as surge protectors around my house with excellent results. In the past I lost some expensive devices to power surges. Now nothing I have plugged into these outlets has been damaged!

This outlet is about the size of a GFCI outlet so in smaller boxes with 12 gage wire you will need to be creative in getting it to fit. The wiring diagram allows it to be anywhere in the branch but it will only protect what is plugged directly into it. Time will tell if it will be needed and if it protects what is plugged into it.

Used it as extra protection towards CCTV system. But the spacing of wholes for prongs are closer together.When installing an outlet cover to split both upper and lower single outlet into multiple ones, the cover would not sit flush.

I purchased this for an outlet behind a dresser on the only wall in a bedroom convenient for a flat screen TV. It would have been more cumbersome and unsightly to use a power surge strip. And, using a plug-in, single or multiple surge protector would have extended the dresser away from the wall further, plus adding additional distance when the TV and satellite receiver was plugged into that. The surge protection is rated at 720 Joules (from Leviton's website) and is not stated on the box or in the enclosed product use instructions. It's surge protection usefulness is stated as 10 years, OR, as long as the green light on the face of the outlet is ON. If the green light is no longer visible, there is no surge protection. However, power to the outlet is still on but should be replaced to guarantee surge protection. On my installation, I can see the green light from the side of the dresser, for more difficult areas to see, there is an outlet with an audible alarm, but twice the cost. The 15 Amp model for use with 14 gauge wire, can be stripped to push into the connections on the back, and it can be wired to power downline outlets in the circuit. There's also a Tamper Proof model that has the letter "T" in front of the model number if small children become curious, like to the green light.

Now our countertop microwave sits back on the counter where it belongs. Big box store says “surge protector outlet? We don’t got no stinking surge protector outlet!” But Amazon sure does! Yeehaw!🙃

Your TV needs a surge protector plain and simple. Without one you are taking a risk. If you mounted your TV on the wall and plugged it directly into a outlet then you are not protected from surges.It is very easy to swap out an existing outlet but the true purpose and proper use of this outlet is to have an electrician install it directly behind your wall mounted TV so that you do not see the cord. Technically by law you can not run your normal power cord through the wall to hide it so it either has to drop down along the wall and get plugged in below or you need to have an electrician install an outlet behind it.As far as quality goes this is NOT the best out there. BUT it is the best when you figure value/quality and ease of install. Some of the others are not an outlet they are just the surge protector and need to be installed with an outlet in a double box. Some are too deep to install easily.The price on Amazon isn't the best... in fact you might be able to get this for less at your local hardware store but with no taxes and free shipping and since time is money it might make sense to pay a small amount more and have it shipped to your door.

A month and a half later these are still working. There are a few important things to know about surge protectors and just how well they work. Based on the manufacturer specs, these outlets have a L-G clamping voltage of 700v. That means it will allow 700 volts to pass through to your plugged in stuff before kicking the rest out to ground. That being said, I still like having these installed in certain places. First is on my refrigerator. I don't have room to put a power strip or plug in wall wart behind there. Same with my washing machine and over range microwave. These may not offer the highest level of protection out there, but it's better than nothing. I use a whole house surge wired into my load center that clamps voltage at a much lower level than these outlets. Odds are, the surge will get kicked out by that unit before it reaches these outlets. If you can use a higher rated plug in surge strip, I would definitely prefer that. If your only option is this or nothing at all, then I would definitely get one of these. Lower the clamping voltage the better.

It comes in a paper box instead of the hard plastic package, this saved me so much energy just to open the package like those from local hardware store. Good Price. Installation is extremely simple, took no time. All the receptacles in our house are Tamper Resistant Receptacles (TRRs), I wish this were too. Also, the two screws hole (6-32 thread) for the plastic cover is flush with the drywall, you *may* need to pre-drill the drywall to make space, otherwise you will get the screw stripped. Many other better receptacles design has the hole stick out a bit. So, I gives this 4 stars.

It was difficult to have any power bar with surge protection on the ceiling. I replaced my power socket with this product on the ceiling for my projector. Works perfectly and I am quite happy with it. I blew one projector because of electrical surge. I advice very strongly to have surge protection for your ceiling projector and this works well.

This outlet is perfect - I have added a lot of surge suppression to our house and this one especially is good for our fridge, installed in the wall like a regular outlet , no need to have an external suppressor plugged into a regular outlet thereby losing a few inches of space to actually move the appliance all the way back into its place in the kitchen
