Heartbreakingly beautiful tale of love, loss and the horrific devastation of war. The attention to detail gave me insight into how so many lives are ruined by war and want.

Well written and researched. I knew about the Jews in Shanghai, but reading this brought it to life. Couldn't put the book down.

I couldn’t put this book down once I’d started it. It’s powerful, sad, lonely and exhilarating at every page turn. Highly recommended, made me laugh and cry. Very moving story based on historical fact during WW2.

Very descriptive book, great story detailing th prejudices Jewish and Chinese people suffered. Would recommend this book well worth reading
