MERCEDES-BENZ, The SL R230: From the SL280 to the SL65 AMG Black Series

This is a very helpful resource if you are considering purchasing an R230. The book helped me to understand the distinctions among the three primary series of this car, which means that I should be able to minimize surprises when I (hopefully) make a purchase. The Buyer's Guide section of the book is helpful and thorough without being excessive. There is also information on the AMG versions, tuner versions and other specialty models if you are interested in these.I would recommend this book if you are the type (like me) that wants to make a reasonably-researched and knowledgeable decision in connection with a large purchase like a car.

Excellent resource for the enthusiast

As an owner of many auto books I give this book a 4. It provides an excellent history of the R230 as well as a buyer's guide and production data. It is a little heavy on the tuner vehicles but overall a good addition to one's collection of SL information. My compliments to Bernd Koehling for a well executed endeavor.

This book has a nice blend of history and technical information. It gives global information and data and is not limited to one country or region. I would read something and then want to find the feature on the 2007 I just purchased. I wish there was more information and numbers for the Designo options. Good read.

Great combination of technical information and stats, useful photos, and a detailed "Buyer's Guide" to help you troubleshoot and determine the best model for you. The book was fair and unbiased while denoting the exceptional qualities of this fine Mercedes automobile.

Very well done. The driving experience starting on page 138 took me away. The words were pure perfection. I recently acquired one of these amazing soon to be historically significant machines. The world will wake up and realize this. These unbelievable low market values for these V12 Gentle Giants will be very short lived. Remember when an SL300 Gull Wing was just another worn out used car. Can you say 1.5 million dollars today. Get yours while you can. Those who truly love automobiles will Never Regret It! Note: Look at the ridiculously low production numbers for SL600's. I.E. 2008, 216. 2009 50! 2010 25!! And believe it or not 2011 ONLY 8 WERE MADE! It's in this good book pages 224 & 225. BUY ONE OR MORE NOW!

I recently bought a used R230 SL350 from a MB main dealer, which is the lowest risk route to getting your hands on one of these beautiful machines, short of buying a new (R231) model. Bernd's book has taught me much more about the car and is a fascinating and informative read for existing and prospective owners.

Excellent book. If you are looking to buy one of these wonderful cars, this book is a must.

Too much emphasis on the high powered cars and not enough on SL350, SL500

This is an excellent and extremely well researched detailed book about the R230 SL. I particularly liked the sections on the folding roof and Command system. I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in this model.
