Fantastic art, decent stories
The artwork here is great but the initial story is somewhat of a mess. The first six parts were in JLA but continues in to the first two issues of Byrne's Doom Patrol series. It doesn't impact the story much here as it's contained in one volume, but for first time readers having the first two issues of a new series as the concluding chapters of a story from another title must have been frustrating to read. The rest of the book reads much better, even though Byrne relies a little too heavily on flashbacks. Overall a solid series, with great presentation here in omnibus form.

Maybe for Byrne fans mostly, but DP fans should dig it
Byrne post 80s work is weirdly pedestrian but also oddly compelling to, as he knows how to make tightly told comics tales. This bizarre run somehow got editorial permission to ignore EVERYTHING that has gone before it and start afresh, which is a mixed bag. His re-imagining of Negative Man is particularly flat and pointless. However, if you are a true fan of the DP, then this is a must. I like it but feel that it is like a really strange cover band, Byrne doing Byrne and not really bringing his old A game to the table, but giving a really solid show all the same.

Best of Bronze Age Series
Great writing and great art. Best line up neoDPers. Too bad JB series didn't run longer!
