You press it down into the angel food cake and then gently lift up on one side of the slice then repeat on the other side of the slice. This will allow you to remove the slice. Unfortunatly, the tines are far to short to work with an angle food cake. The tines are about 2-3 inches too short. You would be better off with a bread knife to slice an angel food cake. One hint on using a bread knife, do not press down on the knife. Let the weight of the knife do the work, just slice slowly and gently.

I’m 84 years old and we always had one of these cake breakers in our (Caucasian) so as to not crush angel food cake when cutting it. I was not aware of “Afro” hairdos until the ‘70s so suspect that cake-breaking function came first but obviously they multi-task now.

No it would make a big mess. It works for all other types of cakes though.

I have never heard of an angel food cake with pineapple in a 9"x13" pan. My experience has been with angel food cake in a tube pan. For that situation I find the conventional angel food cake cutter best. In your situation I'd try cutting your cake with a very sharp knife such as a carving knife.
