Worked the second night!
The media could not be loaded. This trap gets good reviews for a reason. It definitely works. It is overpriced, considering the basic design and materials, but it's certainly solidly constructed and can be used over and over again.I caught the offending skunk on the second night, and hiked up a local fire road to release it the next morning. I made the mistake of not putting a plastic sheet or tarp under the trap when transporting it in the car, but I got lucky and no wet, foul liquids came out. The skunk was pretty calm. Was it terrifying getting into a car with the skunk? It was!!! but, don't worry, your skunk would have to be super tiny to be able to lift its tail and spray while in the trap. releasing it was probably scarier. My bait was baked salmon in Vietnamese fish sauce, sprinkled judiciously throughout the trap. I think fish works better than sweet baits, which is also supposedly good. I didn't have any luck with graham crackers with peanut butter, but, then, again, I had already caught the skunk by then and was just making sure there were no others hanging about.I also recently caught a possum with the same bait, but released that back into my own local ecosystem. They're good for eating insects...

This trap is great!
The media could not be loaded. After having skunks destroy my yard, AND getting sprayed I needed something better. This is it!!Sturdy and durable, super easy to use and wash. Im on #15 skunks and finally figured out the only complaint of this product... Getting the animal to come out.I don't want to kill, simply re-home but skunks sometimes take all day to back out of the cage. With a little nudge of encouragement and water-soft landing (AKA bath) the animal gets a thrill ride into their fresh new start to life!

Push the bait to the back of the bait tray
This trap worked well once we figured out that for it to trap the skunk, you must put the bait on the back of the bait tray. Peanut butter on a quarter slice of bread on the back of the tray did the trick. When the skunk pushed on the tray the door fell. The rest is history. We were able to "transfer" the animals scent free to other locations far from homes. We found that placing the trap near where they were digging for grubs worked best. We first tried where we had last seen them to no avail. To release them, place near some weeds where they feel comfortable to exit the trap. Trap worked well no complaints

# 6 Tuff Trap - Spray Proof Skunk Trap
We have a wooded area around our house and it is common for animals to come into our yard. However, about two weeks ago we discovered that two skunks had moved into our front yard and made themselves at home. I contacted several animal removal services and the price to remove started at $350.00. After searching for a trap, which I did not actually think I would find, I came across the # 6 Tuff Trap - Spray Proof Skunk Trap. I ordered it, and it shipped right out. I received it two days early. It was well made and very sturdy. It was simple to set the the trap. No complex instructions needed. The design of the trap assures that you won't get sprayed by the trapped animal, so you can't actually see inside. But, you can tell if something has entered it because it is designed to drop the door when an animal enters the trap.My husband placed a peanut better sandwich in the trap and set it up in the yard. It was raining pretty hard for two days and the trap sat there with the door up so we knew that the skunks had not emerged from their comfortable hole they had dug in the yard. My husband checked it the next morning after the rain stopped and sure enough, door down, and skunk inside. He took the animal several miles away from the house and released in the woods. When he opened the door, the skunk would not come out. He left the trap and went back later. The skunk had ventured out into his new home in the woods. This product works. It is well made. The design assures you don't get sprayed by a skunk. It is so simple to set up. I paid $75.00 and tax for this trap. As I stated, I called several animal removal services and they each quoted me a price starting at $350.00. It saved me money and got the job done. I ordered a second one just in case.

Kept me safe from getting sprayed
Easy to use and it works. We caught a skunk within two hours of using it. Still a little afraid when I release the skunk it will decide to spray me. I would definitely recommend if you have a skunk problem.

Perfect with a minor modification
This trap is fantastic. I caught one skunk the first night and two the next night using regular cat food. However, when I released them, they refused to come out. It was dark inside, so I guess they felt safe. I did get them to exit, but only with a lot of coaxing. While it’s true that the big skunks can’t spray while inside, the little ones can, so be cautious. The manufacturer actually has a newer version with a sliding back door. You can easily modify this model to essentially have the same capability. Simply drill out the rivets and remove the back plate. Then drill a 1/4" hole in the plastic tube and back plate where the rivets were. Then put the back plate back on and insert a 7" x 1/4" bolt that is threaded on the end. You can use a wing nut to secure the bolt. To release the critter, simply remove the wing nut, slide the bolt out and let the back plate fall back. If the critter won't come out, open the trap door too. With this minor modification, the trap is now perfect. I've caught 4 Skunks in the past 3 days.

Well built but pricey
The trap is very easy to use and seems well built. Spending that much money on a trap made me cringe, but considering a local trapping company wanted anywhere from $350 to $500 to remove a skunk, I guess beggars can't be choosers.
