Uncanny X-men By Kieron Gillen: The Complete Colle

The Fall of Scott Summers (Review #534)
An ending can be a hard thing to write. Especially one that must both be a satisfying conclusion to all the plot points developed over the course of a series and be open ended enough for the next writer to take over. It's even more difficult when that series is then sidelined by the latest Marvel event, in this case Avengers vs X-Men (2012). Once before writer Kieron Gillen accomplished this feat when he helped bridge the gap between J. Michael Straczynski's departure from Thor and Matt Fraction's start and with this volume he does it again for the X-Men. During AvX Cyclops took a sudden and disappointing turn character wise but through events in this series there it becomes a natural development. Other characters' arc besides his get there own suitable conclusion, such as Colossus and his sister, and Hope Summers especially through the AvX Consequences miniseries included in the volume because it was also written by Gillen. The art is pretty stellar for both series as well. Greg Land returns a little disappointingly but positively so does Carlos Pacheco, and there are incredible talents like Dustin Weaver and Daniel Acuña and more. It takes real talent to make something like this work and Gillen proves he can do it once again.5/5
