You may find this disappointing
An easy to read style but now it’s beginning to feel like one of those TV series that keeps adding more episodes and then gets irritating. The multi layers just seem to spin the story out to make it longer. However, it’s nice to meet the sisters all together and see how their lives have progressed but their world always seems unreal and rather privileged. I don’t want to add a spoiler but found it disappointing.

Cheated, disrespected and sad
Having waited over several years for the ‘final chapter’ to be told and then on publication be informed that there is an eighth book to come is unbelievable. I have given so many of the previous six as presents and feel cheated by this new revelation. To me it seems like just another way of making more money with no thought for the reader.Even the book, because it spends so much time on Irish history and the troubles, is somewhat misleading and remarkably boring. Less could have more. So I’m sad and disappointed. The author says that she’s lived with this story for eight years - her readers have also spent time on the series behalf.

Disappointed
How do I start? This book was pretty disappointing after the wait and hype. As others have said, none of our questions answered and a rather long and disjointed story to drag through. The beginning is awful- a clumsy plot line to reintroduce us to all 6 sisters, all of whom seem like caricatures of themselves. Lots of highly improbable sub plots, and too many highly improbable coincidences! Really the worst book of the series and the main character wasn’t even particularly likeable either. As others have said, she’s now “milking it” as another book that promises to answer questions but will it or will there be “another” that promises the same. I understand the author has been unwell, but this really isn’t up to the standard of the others, even though they were also far fetched and tortuous in their plot manipulation at times too. It seemed pretty obvious to me that Pa Salt is Eszu senior and still alive from book one. I maybe wrong but I really wish it had been sorted in this book. All along I wondered how there could be a missing sister when they are all adopted - how do you know who you are looking for to adopt for a start? I am also presuming that Merry is his biological daughter - hence how he knew she was missing - and the reason why he adopted all the others to make amends for not finding/abandoning her in the first place?

The Best of the Best. RIP Lucinda
So very sorry to learn of the passing of dear Lucinda Riley with cancer at such a young age. The world of literature is poorer as a result, and it is heartbreaking, not only for her family and friends, but for all of us who loved her books so much. The Sisters series are by far some of the most compelling books I have ever read. For me they tick all the boxes. History wrapped up with beautiful love stories and fascinating plotlines. The Missing Sister for me is be very best of the best. I loved the female characters and for me they lived in a way that made them feel so real and I wept and smiled with them as the book progressed. Yes the end was frustrating as yet again we are kept waiting, but if the Pa Salt story is half as good as the previous books it will be a winner albeit published under very sad circumstances.
