They used to be so brittle bending, breaking and peeling often. So I am very pleased. I have used it for a top coat, which I'd recommend. I've also used it as a base coat, though I wouldn't recommend this as I found it caused the nail polish to chip off and peel away, and I was wearing OPI nail varnish, so it was this. But when I used it onto of my OPI is made all the difference. Hope this helps. Review: Great Product - I have the worst nails, I bit them all my life but since using this my nails have been getting harder ever day and strengthening. I will definitely buy this product again.

Great base coat and the best brush I have ever used
Works great as a base coat. No comments about the hardening etc because my nails are healthy and I can't tell. But the brush! WOW. It's thick enough to pick up the perfect amount of polish. The shape is perfect so that a single swipe can cover most of the nail. When you use it, you realise what you've been missing out on with other nail polishes. One of those quality of life improvements that hits just right. MVP brush for reals.
