BRAND NEW ALBUM FROM THE POST-PUNK TRAILBLAZERS

Album of the year
Formed in Blackpool, in the late '70s, and releasing their critically acclaimed records on the legendary Factory label, Section 25 regrouped in 2006 with Part-Primativ. This was followed by Nature and Degree and an album of reworked and re-recorded classics (Retrofit). All three of these albums are essential purchases. Over the course of these three records, the sound and line up of S25 has evolved. It would be fair to say that Section 25 have always followed their own path, and have few, if any, peers. Dark Light is a triumphant, upbeat pop record featuring Beth Cassidy's angelic vocals. Standout tracks are My Outrage and Colour, Movement, Sex & Violence. Incredibly, 32 years after their first LP, they have produced their finest collection of songs.

Still Burning Brightly
Founder member Larry Cassidy's sad passing in 2010 might well havesignaled the end for Section 25 but their eighth album 'Dark Light'finds this fine ensemble mining ever deeper into electro-territory andwith Larry's daughter Bethany doing a cracking job at the microphone(together with Vin and Joanna Cassidy and Steve Stringer) they'vecome up with an infectious collection of new material which, althoughmoving a tad further away from the left-leaning path of their earliermaterial, delivers a freshness and approachability which deserves tomake them a whole lot of new friends. I have to say I'm one of them. There are twelve numbers in the set and some really great big sparklytunes among them! If the ebullient beats of 'Love Cuts' and 'ColourMovement Sex & Violence' (especially the latter with its incandescentmelody and sweet-as-a-nut vocals from Bethany) don't get you up on yourfeet and dancing like dervishes then I doubt little else will this year! It's a tough job to pick a winner but if I had to it's going to have to be'My Outrage', a blisteringly upbeat cacophony of skittering synths andfoursquare metronomic percussion. Three minutes of heavenly sonic mayhem! With a past to be proud of the future is looking bright for Section 25 too.Terrific Stuff!

Weak insipid powder pop, of the electro kind !
Oh dear...What has happened to this band? Along with the death of their singer, all the edge has gone, and whats left is a collection of synthetic electro-pap by numbers...!I thought their comeback was very cool and the spark seemed to be there still, but this is just electronic-floss that could have been done by anyone with a casio keyboard....!Is the drummer the only original member left..? If so, you can tell !!!!! Very disappointing.
