2007 expanded edition of this 1990 album from Mark E. Smith and Co. Featuring a bonus CD that contains 14 bonus tracks including B-sides, rarities, remixes and four Peel Sessions. Extricate marked a surprising moment in the Fall's lengthy history - they had signed to a major record label. Despite taking the corporate dollar, they remained true to their own vision and passion to produce a crunching, commercial album that was their most focused since the seminal This Nation's Saving Grace. Extricate was produced by Coldcut, Adrian Sherwood and Craig Leon, is home to 'Bill Is Dead' and the singles 'Telephone Thing' (a cover of a Coldcut song originally sung by Lisa Stansfield) and 'Popcorn Double Feature'. Includes a 12 page booklet containing extensive sleeve notes, images and memorabilia. Universal.

A can't-miss album for Fall fans!
An excellent album! Featuring great singles like "Telephone Thing" and "Popcorn Double Feature," this diverse album also boasts standout cuts like "I'm Frank" and the title track, and on the uncharacteristic ballad "Bill Is Dead" frontman Mark E. Smith is actually SINGING! One of the band's most commercial efforts, this is a great place to start if you are just getting to know The Fall.

Classic, Great Album
The new track listing is a little annoying (I liked the original CD release), but this is just a great album. You either like their singer's voice/style or you don't. A lot of these are just funny/cool. Get it and play it at your next party.

Fantastic-o!
Just goes to show how commonly debated and ultimately misunderstood the Fall are when one takes a look at the idiot who gave this album a one star review."Extricate" is a great recording by the Fall, an angry but also suprisingly sentimental piece of music by the always grumpy Mark E. Smith. This was recorded after Mark's split-up with wife and fellow bandmate, Brix Smith. Considering that she left him for a violinist and that the album opens brilliantly, sarcastically, and defiantly with the intentionally ugly sound of violins screeching away, one must give a nod to Mark. Amidst all that bitterness is a great sense of humor. If you're a fan like I am, then you can start here for the more recent work. "Levitate" and "The Marshall Suite" are also well-worth buying, as are the newer ones like "Unutterable" and "Country on the Click." It's impossible for me to summarize this record; like all Fall records it's all over the place; but that's what I love about this band and the ideas swimming around in Smith's head--they're never, ever boring; and somehow, each record manages to be distinguishable from the next.

The reasoning behind my love of The Fall:
I'm unsure of the reasons why I love this album, but I simply do!It's not a great album by fan standards, but it was my introduction to the group, and like an infection I have not been able to overcome. It spawned the single "Telephone Thing", but beyond that, it's just great to listen to as a whole because it has an undeniable charm that is solely the property of Mark E. Smith and The Fall. No one sounds like them, and thier uniqueness is strange and poetic, at times snotty and un-danceable. The music and attitude contains everything any recent post-rock group would envy, only it was done before post-rock was even THOUGHT of. The Fall is a group that paved the way, and were before thier time. Not a common taste, but surely a memorable one.I suggest if you're out there hedging, you should take a chance and let this cd seep under your skin. It may take awhile for the group to woo you, but once they do, you'll never look at music the same way again.

zero talent (updated 8-12-05)
Tried to like this but nothing turned me on. These songs just aren't any good.UPDATE: anyone who needs to call someone an idiot like the guy above me for merely expressing an opinion is pretty closed-minded. You're the pot calling the kettle black there buddy!EXTRICATE is listed in at least one other place on this forum, and I feel somewhat vindicated by a few reviews there that claim this is horrible Fall. So because of them and the fact that I've heard people praise this band to the heavens, I'll be giving the Fall another try. Unfortunately, this was my first CD by this band. I was told a while back that if I didn't like this one then there's no need to look further into the Fall's catalogue. I'm glad I figured out that this might not be the case, but I stand by my original opinion: however cool the "sound" of this band may be on EXTRICATE, the songs themselves fall completely flat. This sucks!

Great Fall Album
It is hard to compare Fall albums, there are so many, but you have to appreciate the homage to Frank Zappa found in the song, "I'm Frank." Arms Control Poseur is fun. This as the first Fall album I ever bought and still like it. Buy it! Mark E. Smith is amazing and I hope he manages to keep togther enough of a band to continue for a long time.

The main cd is faultless. The bonus a little more mixed but overall a must for anyone missing an entry in their collection from this period of the band's incredibly rich history.
