Q: Thinking about using this to board a boat from the dock. Any concerns?

Mounting would be my biggest concern.

Q: Can this be shortened by cutting off with a general use saw

Hey Doug, This plank is somewhat segmented/hollow areas in both ends & center of the plank, but you could shorten from either or both ends depending upon how much shorter you need to make it, because you need to save the mounting hole areas. Then with the cut-off pieces you could use to plug-up the unfinished ends of the plank, by inserting wood plugs inside of hollow ends of the plank & then using part of cut-off's finished/molded end to cap over the end of the wooded plug. Then again you could just make a proper lenght one for your trailer' tongue out of treated 2X10 treated wood, 2 u-bolts, nuts & washers, recess the nuts & washers alittle lower than plank surface, glue/attach a non-skid material on top.
