The Essential Collection

Excellent Music; Careless CD Production
This is a superb collection of music, well-performed, well-recorded, and the audio mastering is excellent. These guys were brilliant and this is a fun CD (two CDs, actually) to listen to. I am giving this collection a 3-Star rating because CD #2 was produced with NO METADATA! What kind of POOR Quality Assurance must this company have to get CD #1 right in this regard, then completely screw up the track and album info on CD #2? I had to rip all the tracks, manually add in all the track and album info, then re-burn the CD so that I can play it in my car and know what the tracks are. This collection deserves a 5-Star rating except for this bit of carelessness, which I have seen all too often in the CD industry.

While I am delighted to obtain additional recordings by this group
I became enamored with the Comedian Harmonists after seeing the docudrama. While I am delighted to obtain additional recordings by this group. I am disappointed in the sound quality. Yes, I know it was recorded in mono. I didn't expect stereo sound. However, I did not expect to need to maximize the volume to hear it. This set is NOT digitally remastered. I purchased a 4 CD box set (Wochenend' und Sonnenschein) from Amazon (no longer available) a few years ago that set the standard for what I expected. The "Essential Collection" pales in comparison.

Wonderful songs sung in harmony
After seeing the film The Harmonists recently I was very moved by the true story, the acting and the incredible harmony. The music was so beautiful that I couldn't wait to find a cd. The original Harmonists produced many CDs that it took a while to locate the one I wanted. Their singing is beautiful.

Great Collection of Wonderful Performers
If you try them, you'll be hooked! The Harmonists were the toast of Germany and the world until they ran afoul of the Nazi's since they had a couple of jewish members.

QUITE A DISCOVERY
It is difficult to understand why these artists, the 'Comedian Harmonists', have remained so forgotten. Such a clear forerunners of madrigal groups dealing in popular music (King's Singers, Swingle Singers, Manhattan Transfer, etc.) this sextet adds to their technical domain the charms of the European 1930's song.
