Excellent introduction to reading music for bass guitar
Why is it important to learn how to read music?I have found many benifits from learning to read music. One unexpected benefit was is got me away from staring at my fretting hand whilst playing. By looking and the sheet music it forces you to learn to nvigate the fretboard without constantly looking at your left hand.I have never got the hang of tab and so I have had to rely on video tutorials to learn bass lines. I am studying jazz walking bass lines at the moment and most transcriptions are in standard notation with no tab so learning to read is transforming my study. My wife plays the piano and it is handy being able to read the bass clef parts of her piano music. My understanding of music theory has grown not that I can read music. The book is set out in a logical way, starting off simple and getting more complex as you work through the book. I found that just spending 5 to 10 minutes a day at the beginning of my daily practice was enough to really make progress with learning to read music.Highly recommended

Good book but unable to download mp3
The book is very useful and helpful for the price. My only complaint is I went to the website where you should be able to download mp3 files and all that’s on Greg’s website is how to purchase his videos, lessons, and shirts etc.

Puzzling, Incomplete
This clearly isn't the book I was looking for. I am an experienced musician and music educator. My daughter has picked up the bass guitar recently. She is a "natural" on the bass. After just a month of daily playing, she can rip off any bass line by watching me play it! She can read bass TAB proficiently too (she taught herself TAB). I've been really amazed at her progress. She can even read bass & treble clef pretty well, but she needs to do better reading standard notation ON BASS GUITARKnowing that reading standard notation is important, I was looking for a book with a title like "Reading Music for Bass Players." As I flipped through this book, I was fascinated and surprised to find not a single illustration of the fretboard. In fact, this book does nothing to tie the idea of fretboard to the notes on the paper. There are occasional finger numbers noted (but without string/fret instructions). There are some useful reading/rhythm exercises in this book, thus it may be a useful supplement for players at any level. However, it is not very useful for my use case. It simply doesn't answer the beginner's (obvious) questions:"Ok, I understand that's a D#,but where is it on the bass.""Where do I put my hand to play this exercise?""7th fret on the A string, where is that on the staff?"
