It's a very good insight into the bombastic self-important mindset that Mountbatten brought to the Indian situation. India's politicians are described as juvenile and childlike to be guided by the firm paternal hand of the cousin of the King. There are some nice word pictures. And the fact that Mountbatten and Lady Edwina did their best to connect with the Indian masses in their own aristocratic manner did a lot to make independence a friendly parting of ways. The British experience was always going to be a mixed bag of feelings.
