TAKING A STEP BACK
"F_____, I was in trouble"And apparently so am I. A new trilogy set for $17? NO. Believe me, I take no pleasure in saying this because I've been panting for release of this book and the romance between Cade and Jolie. And I'll NEVER say that I don't enjoy her writing style and characters, because I so do and am already into this romance. Laurelin Paige is hands-down one of my all-time fave authors and the Fixed Trilogy remains my second all-time fave trilogy and BBF in Hudson. I’ve read and own every single series since, including the Dirty Universe, so my love of this author and her writing style is rooted.I'm drawing a line in the sand because the author has joined the ranks of other authors on overpricing. The time has come to step back and reassess the worthiness of the flood of trilogies in general that are coming at us fast and furious as a freight train on steroids, if such a thing was possible. Honestly, I can’t keep up with the sheer volume and speed of these published ebooks. Most of them aren’t worth the hype or price, and I regret purchasing 90% of them -- though this feeling is not directed at Ms. Paige. The problem is that this book is only 245 pgs for $5. The next two are $6 each. The entire ebook trilogy the length of a single book for $17. It’s absurd. These aren't physical books with real pages to cherish and keep on a book shelf. No. They’re stored in the cloud. Ebooks just aren’t worth as much as a result. Author greed in general equates ebooks with the value and worthiness of bound books, but I disagree. I’ll read priced sets like this on Overdrive loan (or KU), or wait for a sale, without a price tag that risks being disappointed in yet another regrettable purchase. My feeling has nothing to do with the story and characters, which I recommend. The issue is price. Books matter to me. When I buy one, it means something, and has to be worth it. Not just a throwaway purchase like a candy bar. No matter how much I like this series, the length and content won’t be worth $17. I love this author, encourage you all to read the series as I will, but I can’t support the price and that affects my overall rating.

Achingly delicious and unforgettable, this is vintage Paige!
She saved the best for last in her dirty filthy universe of broken billionaires. Opening with a hot damaged hero pacing a fancy office pining and pissed off over the s3xy femme fatale from his past, Wild Rebel is a classic romantic suspense that beats with a dirty filthy sensual heart. The plot, gah! It has heartbreak and forbidden bargains written all over it and I couldn’t look away. The rollercoaster of emotions gnaws at you. The lewd moments, the intimacy in the middle of the longest odds, kept me swiping for more.Yes it’s hot and the build up to all the filthy things, with just the right amount of whatever we call her well-written languid sultry bits, blew my mind, and the seventeen years between Cade and Jolie is ripe for secrets and double crosses. It’s so good, in that one-of-a-kind hot “HOLY HELL I can’t take it” kind of way. It’s a page-turning suspense that sizzles with steamy secrets and buried sins. It’s a thrilling, blisteringly smart romance. In the middle of all of it? Two puppermasters, the deviant savant, Donovan Kincaid (swoon!) and Headmaster Stark, a scary man from Cade and Jolie’s past. I cannot wait for the fireworks.Cade Warren is a devastating anti-hero and thank god there is more to come because the man is a walking web of secrets with a dark forbidden past. And Jolie is strong yet vulnerable and so not what she seems, she’s Cade’s perfect foil. I don’t trust her, but I want her to win, Grr!I felt like I was reading a movie, the hair pin curves, my doubts, the thrills, the past the present, everything that happens is so vivid and the story is dark and compelling. I swallowed this whole in one breath. If you’re looking for an ADULT romance, with a complicated story, great action and that edge of your seat moan-worthy riske storytelling that only Paige can deliver, Wild Rebel is a gem. Quit reading and just buy it.

With a rebel yell, I cried, “More, more, more!”
OH, YES.Such were the words that first filtered through my head when I learned that Laurelin Paige was writing Cade Warren's story, the last of the quintet of Dirty Men. We've previously spent time with Donovan (SWOON), Weston, Nate, and Dylan, with Cade always out of reach in the background. Ever aloof, he remained in the Far East, just out of our grasp. In this first book of the series, Laurelin Paige puts us immediately into Cade's orbit, letting him narrate his tale. We learn about Jolie, a woman from his past who comes to him with an urgent matter that places her in his present. We begin to learn why he maintains that aloof veneer, getting clues as to his teen years and what drove him to head to Japan. We also get to see Donovan, who remains my all-time favorite Laurelin Paige Hot Hero, although Cade might just nudge right up there, pretty close to Mr. Kincaid. Whereas Donovan's default position is problem-solver, Cade's is detachment. Yes, he will help you, but he will do it with as little personal investment possible. Cade resists. Oh, how he resists. He resists thinking about his past, he resists thinking about himself, he resists thinking about Donovan and their other partners, and you better believe he resists thinking about Jolie and all the emotions she stirs up. He resists thinking about Jolie most of all. When Jolie is around, though, their combustible relationship makes the pages all but singe your fingers. Can anyone write brooding, tortured heroes like Laurelin Paige? Can anyone craft antiheroes who make us care so deeply for them the way she does?Laurelin Paige placed just enough cookie crumbs in this book. We know just enough. I can't wait to find out more in the next book. I can't wait for more of Cade and Jolie.

Slow moving
First the fact that the author is dragging this out into three books is terrible. The story was slow and has to many gaps.

An excellent start to this series
Oh my , what an excellent start to this series ,it seems like a life time ago that we were introduced to Donavan Kincaid & co at Reach . This one is Cade Warren’s story ,he took over the Reach office in Tokyo ,now he’s back in NYC for Westons Marriage, he’s also had a plea for help from the girl who broke his heart years ago . Julianna Stark or Jolie as he called her was the headmasters daughter at the prestigious Stark Academy that her father also owned . Her father was a very cruel sadistic barbaric man who metered out severe punishments to his daughter and Cade . As they became lovers they hatched a plan , which was to graduate then run away together ,but for some reason Jolie refused to go with him , heartbroken Cade left on his own . Naturally he’s still very hurt by her actions but is totally gobsmacked when she tells him what she wants help with . I feel that there’s a lot more secrets and revelations to come out as in this first novel we only get a glimpse into the past of Jolie and at present I’m not quite certain of Jolie’s intentions . They’ve also discovered some unsavoury dangerous information regarding her father and have literally gone into the lions den 😱 ......... can’t wait for book 2

The past has haunting outcomes
As ever a very absorbing storyline, with old characters taking a significant part. This being the journey of Cade ‘s experiences now. Donovan plays a big part and Weston not quite so, but his wedding is important. Great to catch up and journey through their lives and rewarding to learn of Cane, the tattooed guy who has an intriguing past that we are learning about. A love , for Jolie, or Julianne , and a hatred of her biological father. A story of torment, both emotional and physical. A journey of missed opportunities and new horizons. Well written, with lots of emotional scenes and triumphs. An ending that makes the water clears, but a dark acknowledgement that may have serious outcomes. Awaiting the next book with excitement and trepidation but patience as too.

Terrific
When the author offered this book at such a nice price I thought it was a prelude but this was a book and it was good. This story is about Cade and Jolie and Donovan. . Cade is closed off and secretive. He seldom seeks help from anyone. His friend Donavan. Cade has to ask for help from someone and chooses Donovan as the lesser of two evils. Julianna aka Jolie has let Cade down in the past and even though she’s perfectly aware she has no business asking she contacts him anyways. Why, because she trusts him. Jolie is in trouble. If Cade won’t help her she doesn’t know what she’ll do. Cade asks Donavan for help. His contact uncovers something sinister and the only way to figure things out is for Cade & Jolie to dig in to the past and go back to uncover what headmaster, Stark has been involved in all along. Lots of twists and turns, can’t wait for the next book.
