Better read
I enjoyed this 2nd book so much more than the first one. The characters were far less muddled. The story was good and went at a great pace. I like DCI Will Blake and the people he works are becoming more interesting. This story about a man who has suffered through his childhood, seeks revenge. He wants his idol of years gone by to be in the public eye again and kills. A good read and I hope the next one is as good.

Another good story
Another good story based in an area I know well. It's nice to be able to recognise areas and streets. As for the story, it was good. A few twists here and there but quite a few important pieces of information just crept into the story without ever being eluded to previously, so there wasn't really much less in to it.Mayhew has a good writing style so it's really easy to read at pace.

Another book I couldn't put down by this author!
I read this book far to quickly, simply because it was impossible to put down. I've become quite a fan of this author's work. Getting to know the characters has become like making new friends, especially DCI Wil Blake, he's a character who pulls you into the story with such ease. The storyline and plot grabs your imagination and holds it as you try to grab a clue as to where the author is leading you, very clever plotting with twists and turns you don't see coming, it certainly kept me guessing, just what I like in a crime novel!Although I've read these books out of sequence it hasn't spoilt my enjoyment one little bit and I believe that's because of the great characterisation of all the characters drawing you into the stories with hints and info on past events means you soon pick up on any relevant information from previous storylines!I suggested you read them for yourself, you won't be disappointed!

Highly recommended
In a quiet Wirral neighbourhood, all is not well. A couple return from holiday to find their heating turned to high, and a bloated body in their house. Will Blake investigates. It appears the murderer is tagging him by using references to William Blake the poet. Another body turns up in the same road, also after a holiday. All the neighbours come under scrutiny. This is a really well-crafted mystery and I thought I knew what was going on a couple of times, but I didn’t! Highly recommended.

A good read
I downloaded this book out of interest because it's a local author writing about a local area. It was a thumping good read and I will definitely read more by JR Mayhew.

Another cracker of a book
I don't normally read sequences of books about one character written by the same author, but in JE Mayhew's case I'm making an exception. I read The Poison Tree with Will Blake as the main protagonist and so enjoyed it I purchased this next one in the sequence. As in the first book, the story is well written, easy to read and moves along at a decent pace and at the heart of it DCI Will Blake. He's not your usual world weary cynical cop with deadly secrets but a normal man who's doing the best he can who seems to get more than his fair share of murderers on his patch! I like this character and I really like this author's style. Well worth reading.

A bit samey
This book was OK but I did not find the characters very likeable, so was not rooting for them to catch the killer. Doubt I will read any of the future books.

DCI Will Blake
Wow, this was a heck of a read! Very exciting, lots of reading on the edge of my seat. Finished this in one evening after reading the first in this series, which was also very good. Highly recommend both.

This second book in the Will Blake series is easy to read. Albert Green was a good find to assist Josh Gambles. An enjoyable read I look forward to book number 3.

Very Good Read... no, I take that back. Excellent Read!
I'm enjoying this Blake series because the writer has developed such an interesting protagonist. William Blake is somewhat stereotypical at first glance, however, he is far more intricate. I love the way the plot was crafted. It was somewhat gruesome for me,but overall a well worth your while book if this genre is your thing. I'm on to the next in the series. As a side note, it's not surprising the Author previous!y worked as an Eng!ish teacher. The sentence structure and sequencing along with the poetry/literary references are brilliant.
