The Druid Animal Oracle Deck

Gorgeous, but the booklet leaves out a lot of information
These cards are absolutely gorgeous. I use the Druidcraft Tarot, so I expected nothing less from this wonderful illustrator. I especially love the beautiful picture of the hind, or deer. I do wish they had dispensed with the distracting outer white border, and the card stock on my deck is quite thin. But the pictures are just wonderful, realistic and yet with a touch of storybook magic to them. The booklet is okay, nowhere as in-depth as that of the Druidcraft Tarot. There is a page dedicated to each card, half of which deals with reversals, which I don't use, so for me there is about a paragraph per card. That would be okay, except that some of the information needs further explanation for those of us who are not familiar with Druid lore. For example, under "Hare," we read: "...(the Hare) represents intuition, which makes things appear suddenly in our consciousness, like the lapwing eggs of Eostre, that magically appear in the hare's form (nest). As representatives of the Corn Spirit and the two equinoxes, the hare brings the excitement of rebirth..." Whoa, hold on there! Lapwing eggs? Eostre? Corn Spirit? Even a brief explanation, or a glossary, would make the book, and therefore the cards, more accessible to those of us who are drawn to animal spirits but may not know the Druid associations. Let me in on the secret, please. The Introduction tells us that the cards have been drawn using the principles of sacred geometry, incorporating a circle, square, and pentagram in each. I wish an example of this had been diagrammed for us, as it is not at all apparent to me in looking at the cards. Also, we are told that "the border of the animal cards conveys a message in Ogham- the tree language of the Druids." But again, no key is given for us to decipher this message. All told, the pictures are gorgeous, but regarding the booklet, I feel like I'm being left out of a wonderful secret, due to the absence of information needed for the uninitiated to get the most out of these cards.

Buy the better '95 version for an additional $1.50
These cards don't have the smooth finished texture, like the older version, and the backside of several cards arrived looking pre-scuffed. Besides that, the original deck offers a guidebook with 184 pages instead of 48, and contains a lot more information! Empty out your pockets, or check under the sofa cushions, and come up with enough loose change to buy the better version - you'll be glad you did,

No tapestry. Small manual & big cards.
I’ve had this deck before, and preferred the other book that came with it before. Also, it does not come with the tapestry it shows here, all that came with it are the small manual, the cards & box it came in. The deck is beautifully designed, I’m not turned off by the size, as I’ve owned the deck before & knew what I was supposed to be getting. The manual is fine too, pocket size I guess. Just wish the tapestry came with it like the false advertising shows.

Beautiful Deck
I love these oracle cards. They are bigger than I expected which is good and not great. The size being large is good because the artwork is shown really well. The size is not great because they can be a bit difficult to shuffle. The deck comes with 3 blank cards so that you can make some extra animals if you want to, which is a cool idea. The booklet that comes with the deck has a lot of good information in it, but it is hard to find the animal card you drew because it isn't organized alphabetically or anything. The booklet has the name of the animal, the pronunciation, keywords, the meaning of the card, and the reversed meaning of the card. There are a few things, as described, that are small challenges with the deck, but I love the artwork and information so much that I still really love this deck.

Well worth the money.
Beautiful deck. Cards really spoke to me. There were a few dark lines across some of the cards, I think it may have been a printing error (its not bad enough to be a problem though) and for some reason my deck came with three extra blank cards. I'm not sure if I just recieved a unique deck or they all come this way, but I'm taking it as a creative opportunity to paint some of my own animals. :)

Fantastic Divination Tool!
I own a few decks by Philip Carr-Gomm, each one more wonderful than the last. Reading with this deck is powerful and meaningful for the reader. I own very few oracle decks, but I've always found myself drawn to those done by PCG. Each deck is accompanied with a helpful guidebook that assists the reader in understanding the meanings of the cards as well as provide some divination tips/tricks.My ONLY complaint with any of his decks is that they are always a bit uncomfortable to shuffle due to their large size.Would highly recommend this deck to tarot/oracle readers both beginners and experts~

Although similar I liked the original one better
Got this as a replacement for another Druid Animal Oracle Deck once offered on Amazon. Although similar I liked the original one better. It's no longer offered. This one is still quite beautiful.

Nice with a couple of issues
First of all, contrary to what the product description says (along with some reviewers), this item contains only cards and a very small manual. However after working a little with it I can say that the manual is satisfactory.Overall I like the deck but, there are two issues I see:* the cards are *huge*, so big in fact that they prevent me from using it more often than I'd like to. This is the same problem I have with the DruidCraft Tarot created by the same authors--I am in love with the art, but I hate its size.* the meanings are very esoteric. Some will like this, but a beginner might feel turned off by it. I did a reading for someone and, after copying for her the meanings from the manual, I had to "translate" it, or better said adapt those very esoteric meanings to real life. This isn't a big issue for me, but it could be for someone else.

Very Disappointing.
When I opened the box to reveal the cards I was Very Disappointed. Card poor quality, thin, not glossy so each card sticks to each other. Poor quality of pictures. The booklet is another thing, trying to navigate through this booklet is a nightmare. Would NOT recommend, especially if you use the cards quite a bit because I don't think they will last long.

Very beautiful and helpful oracle
I first bought this beautiful set of cards with the wise and well-written book about a decade ago. It soon became a firm favourite but I did find the book rather difficult to travel with, it being a hardback. So I am VERY pleased that the cards have now been brought out with a booklet. Having said that, the booklet only offers interpretations of the animals depicted-it doesn't contain the myths-so I would suggest having BOTH this deck (for portability) and the original cards-with-hardback for the deeper work. The paintings of each animal are breathtaking. All animals depicted are or have been native to the British Isles, except the four dragons (Earth, Air, Water and Fire) which are included, I presume, to add extra depth. The book is written by the Carr-Gomms, both eminent contemporary Druids. They really do know their stuff ! There's nothing fluffy-bunny about these cards or about the book. Both are very grounded in tradition without being stuffy. There is no psychobabble or other annoying jargon. Highly recommended
Beautiful artwork. Relevant to the meanings and woven through with symbolism. Simple short guidance which allows for the reader to sink between the lines into the subconsciousness.Love these. One of my favourite decks.

beautiful cards but flimsy
The cards are beautifully drawn and designed. However, I do find the card stock very flimsy and not very satisfying to handle. Not sure if there are other versions with heavier stock but these I find a bit too thin.

Beautiful
I already have the book with the cards, however, I wanted to keep the original cards and have a spare set for readings. These cards have excellent artwork but can take a little while to study all of the 'hidden' plants etc... which help define the cards. If you're willing to put in the time to learn these cards they will reward you with accurate readings. A plus with this set is that you have several blank cards so you can draw or glue on pictures of other animals that you yourself feel should be there. All in all an excellent oracle deck.
