Morgandale: An exciting African historical adventure story (Pioneers Book 1)

Why did we lose our pioneering spirit and sense of adventure? For good or bad these were exciting and challenging times as the British Empire was grown. Peter Rimmer has brought this era to life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this saga of courage and determination.

Although I enjoyed this book , well written and interesting, it is not as spellbinding as Wilber Smith. It lacks the depth of detail. It certainly holds one’s attention and Is difficult to put down.

What I like is stories from Africa I guess it was with living there for a few years that I should know more about the country and the history of the early pioneers and all the dangers they faced on their journeys.I have been reading Wilbur Smith books from the first book to his latest one and normally just wait till his next one comes around and you know that can be a long time to wait for a novel from him with all his research he goes into etc etc.But I’ve been looking around for some time now for something that I think would be a really good read.And picked this one after along search I really and truly picked a winner in my mind.I have also went on and purchased the follow up to this one to continue with the adventure with James Carregans and see how his future pans out.Looking forward to another exciting novel if it’s anything to go by the last one (Carregans Catch) by Peter Rimmer.

I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was well written, with a very good story line, close to the actual history but not bogged down by fact,s.

I liked the story line in terms of the development of farm land in Rhodesia. The characters are realistically depicted, the writer has a keen sense of the attitudes of farming pioneers and their devotion to their ideals and dreams and achievements.A good read for anyone interested in the founding and formation of the colony.

Easy enough to read but not enough depth to it for me.

I enjoyed this read. It gives one to question the rights of people through history, to walk into another county and lay claim to it .Not forgetting it also happened to our country. Are we any better for it?
