Must be good purchased as follow up to the killer grannies one, as nephew liked that and wanted more. He’s turning 11 if anyone is wondering. Seems to enjoy this authors books.

An excellent book (and series) to encourage your kids into reading...
Here we have the third book in Jim Smith’s ‘Future Ratboy’ series of kids’ books. This is a relatively new series from the author of the ‘Barry Loser’ series. The order of Future Ratboy books are:- Future Ratboy and the Attack of the Killer Robot Grannies- Future Ratboy and the Invasion of the Nom Noms- Future Ratboy and the Quest for the Missing ThingyPreviously on Future Ratboy…When a bolt of lightning hit Colin Lamppost he was zapped millions of years into the future and turned into a half boy, half rat, half TV! With new superkeel powers. Now he has aerials sticking out of his head, a telly on his belly, a cape made out of a bin bag and a plug-tail hanging off his bum. Oh, and his cuddly toy bird also got turned into his real-life bird sidekick dubbed Not Bird (because he shouts Not after everything he says). In This New Adventure…Future Ratboy sees a surprising new side to his enemy, evil DR X, goes on a journey to the centre of the earth and faces a race against time to find the missing thingy. What To Expect…All the usual kid’s comedy clearly aimed at 7 – 11 year olds. Yeah the jokes are often silly or gross or just completely off-the-wall. That’s what kids of this age love. And the humour hits the age range perfectly. The book includes black and white carton illustrations on every page throughout the length of the story. The text is printed in a reasonably large font, with the words used being at an early junior school sort of age (Year 3 - 4). As such, this is the ideal sort of book for your 7 – 11 year old to get reading. They’ll probably love the silly, high-adventure story, and won’t struggle with many of the words, but may find the odd word here and there a bit of a challenge. In essence, books like this are excellent for encouraging your kids to really get into reading. Our kids (7 year old twins – boy and girl) both love these Future Ratboy stories. Which to me makes the series a rip-roaring success. So a well-deserved five stars from me.

Future Ratboy and the Quest for the Missing Thingy
This is the third book in the “Future Ratboy,” series, following on from, “Future Ratboy and the Attack of the Killer Robot Grannies,” and “Future Ratboy and the Invasion of the Nom Noms.” Ratboy was previously called Colin Lamppost, when one day he and his cuddly toy bird were inside a wheelie bin which got hit by lightning and zapped him into the future – transformed into half boy, half rat and, erm, half TV. Plus, of course, his toy bird is now a real bird… There are a great cast of characters, lots of illustrations and large fonts to help break up the text. This makes this an ideal choice for reluctant readers. However, this also had a lot of appeal for my ten year old, who really enjoys Jim Smith’s crazy future world.Like all superheroes, Future Ratboy has an enemy – evil Mr X. It is the Mayor of Shnozville’s birthday and Mr X’s pet monster is on the loose… The plot is wrapped up in a madcap plot involving cereals, transformed vending machines and slapstick jokes. Lots of fun and, although this is the third in the series, it is easily possible to read this as a stand alone story.
