Why is the only measure of how much this holds in milliliters instead of good old American ounces?

It is a scientific mug so of course it will be in ML. If you use your good ole brain and figure there is aprox 30ml in 1 fluid US OZ. The top line shows 400ml so it would be 13.33oz.

The mug is made in China. @JavaFennell, it's unfortunate that you didn't get the service you deserved. I can assure you that the mugs at Benz Microscope have the caffeine symbol screened on one side, and that customer satisfaction is our top priority.

Is this dishwasher safe?

It is a glass mug. I don't think it specifically says "dishwasher safe". My husband has it on his desk at work, so we've never tried it in the dishwasher. He loves it and it is a great conversation piece!

Is it possible to add customized symbols/words on the mug?

Yes. You can definitely have it engraved!
