This brace is a huge relief for fractured toes! In my situation, the injury is to the 4 smaller toes, middle of the little toe, middle of the toe next to the big toe, and base of the 3 middle toes. I'm able to get my foot into a loose shoe or walk/hobble barefoot but it's very uncomfortable, causes additional swelling to my foot and puts undue strain on other parts of my body. I've got a lot of swelling beneath my toes so it feels like I'm walking on a bunched-up sock. I have a boot from a previous injury to these same toes. The boot does help but it's heavy and clunky and puts pressure on the top of my toes which adds to the nerve irritation. I ordered this brace which was delivered the next day to my house and provided immediate relief to my foot. It's lightweight so there is no pressure at the top of the foot. It's not at all clunky. The bottom of the sole is configured to put the pressure more into the middle of the foot when stepping and rocks as you step so as not to bend the toes. I'm now able to walk with a more normal gait so other parts of my body are also feeling relief. The sole height is a close match to the shoes I normally wear which is an added bonus (the boot is much higher). My foot is a normal size 6. The photos show the brace next to a size 6 Merrell Women's Encore Ice 4 shoe, one with a lightweight sock and one with a heavy sock. My only complaint with this brace is that the bottom sole is molded out of hard plastic. It does have grips and doesn't appear slippery, but I would prefer a more absorbent rubber sole. Aside from that, I highly recommend this. Yesterday was the first day that I wore it all day and it relieved the pain enough that I was able to get a good night's sleep. Well worth it!

Fractured the pinky toe. This shoe is lightweight, doesn’t make your foot and leg hot like the boot. Able to easily wear it and is fairly comfortable. The challenge is this still rubs on my pinky toe even when it’s taped up. I think if it was the first 3 toes it might be a better. Expensive, but well made. Still a better than the boot, make walking much more normal than throwing out your hip.

I broke my small toe and needed some support so I ordered two pairs, one for inside the house and the other for outside, which was a good idea since I don't want to track dirt/mud/germs into the home using the post-op shoe inside the home as well. For reference, there are two parts to the velcro strap, the "hook" and the "loop". The hook part is the rougher part that grabs onto the the loop. There are three straps on the shoe, the forefoot, mid-foot and the ankle strap. I think the ankle strap is way too long without having adequate hook. I have extremely high arches but even that was too much loop; if it is not a design flaw then maybe the manufacturer can add a piece of extra hook so you can make the ankle strap more secure: right now the ankle strap is barely hanging onto a flimsy patch of hook. Both of my post-op shoes were like this, so I'm assuming they were not defects. Other than that, I love these shoes, they are wide enough to accommodate swelling and squared-off at the top to prevent bumping your toe into things. The sole is stiff and prevents flexing of the toes (like stepping on uneven ground), which is what I totally needed; flexing/extending toes = incredible pain! I wear a men's size 8 or a women's size 8.5 wide and I got a woman's medium based on what other readers were reporting and I made a good choice as it was a good fit (other than the long ankle loop strap with hardly any hook).

I purchased this shoe after a bunionectomy, intending it to be a transition piece between a heavy ankle walker and a normal shoe. My physician initially recommended purchasing Birkenstocks for their support, straps, and hard soles as I moved forward in the (intense!) recovery - I refused to spend $150.00 for a butt-ugly shoe that I'd probably burn after one month. It was also the only thing that my foot could fit into what with swelling, and the adjustable straps were handy for this purpose. There are days when I can only put pressure on my foot for short periods of time as I adjust to full weight-bearing, and this shoe then provides a nice break when I need to rest. It does not have heavy support, but I specifically wanted only lighter support to allow for muscle use and strength-building. I'm also utilizing it to practice my driving, as I can only wear a hard sole for the next few weeks but still need to get behind the wheel. And who can beat this price?! All told, this was an excellent item to have for recovering from a bunionectomy, and I'd highly recommend it as a nice middle ground - as long as your physician approves! I did take mine to an appointment so that she could get a look and make sure that it would work for me. 13/10!

EDIT: I changed my rating from 4 stars down to 1 star!! My original review was after using the shoe for about a week, now 2 weeks later and the shoe has begun to crack!!! I've added a photo of the cracking. I have found that this shoe is very uncomfortable and my foot hurts after using it. I kept the she from the ER to use inside the house, and that shoe doesn't give me the pain or discomfort that this one does. I only have 2 weeks left and I really didn't want to buy an ADDITIONAL shoe!! I fractured my 5th metatarsal 8 weeks ago, luckily no cast but I wore a hard soled "boot/shoe". After 6 weeks my doctor told me to begin walking again but continuing to wear the hard shoe all the time. The shoe I was given from the ER has a very flat bottom, making it difficult to return to a normal gait. I bought this because I wanted a hard sole shoe that allowed me to achieve a more normal gait, and I didn't like wearing the same shoe inside & outside (it tracks in a lot of debris/dirt). Pros: I really appreciate the curved bottom of this shoe, it is much easier to walk in than the flat version. The sizing chart was accurate, but I checked the reviews for guidance. I wear a women's 9, ordered a women's large. It fits just like the shoe I was given in the ER, with over an inch of spare room beyond my big toe for protection. The velcro straps are easy to use and trim to size. The shoe feels like it grips the ground properly without being slippery. Cons: I would give 4.5 ⭐️ because I do have a few minor complaints, but these would not prevent me from purchasing. The back of the heel has very little cushion compared to my flat ER shoe, so I added a small/thin piece of foam backed fabric (📸). This has helped and was an easy fix. The sole of the shoe tends to pick up A LOT of small pebbles that I either have to pluck out or drag my foot along the sidewalk to remove. The portion of fabric that covers the mid foot/toe region is a little too long. When pulling the straps tighter, it bunches against the plastic velcro loops. This hasn't caused any discomfort, just visually annoying. Overall this is an excellent alternative to the standard "walking boot/shoe" given by the ER, at a reasonable price!! I am able to walk more comfortably and getting my foot back to normal function is much easier in this shoe.

After I broke my toe, I used this shoe to help protect and heal. The Velcro straps secured the foot however, it did not have a rocker sole as advertised which made for an awkward gait.
